Romantic Weekends for Two in Montreal
A weekend for two in Montreal
A couple’s weekend in Montreal works best if you pick a base in Old Montreal and let the evenings do the work. Everything below is priced in CAD, with 14.975% sales tax added to most bills. Tipping 18 to 20% before tax is normal in restaurants. Confirm rates and hours with each venue.
Friday evening: arrive and walk
Settle in and stroll rue Saint-Paul and Place Jacques-Cartier after dark. Hotel William Gray at 421 rue Saint-Vincent is a listed place to stay in the quarter. For dinner, Le Club Chasse et Peche at 423 rue Saint-Claude carries a Michelin listing, and Gibbys at 230 rue Saint-Paul Ouest is another Old Montreal dinner option.
Saturday: spa, then the wheel
Bota Bota, a spa on a boat in the Old Port at the foot of McGill, is open to adults 18 and over. Opening hours run 10:00 to 22:00 from Monday to Thursday and 9:00 to 22:00 from Friday to Sunday. Book online or by telephone. The operator is building a second boat and pavilion, with works until 30 October 2026, so expect the third floor to be closed until then. Treatment and circuit prices were not confirmed for this guide, so check the spa site.
After dark, ride La Grande Roue. The wheel is 60 m high, with 42 heated cabins, and one cabin has a glass floor. A turn lasts about 20 minutes. Late-evening closing times vary between listings, so check before you queue.
Sunday: the mountain
Head up Mount Royal to the Kondiaronk Belvedere for the free city view, ideally an hour before sunset. In winter, Beaver Lake on the same mountain opens a free refrigerated rink, expected from around 12 December 2026 to 8 March 2027, and skates can be rented there. In summer, rowboats are for hire on the lake.
Dinner choices
- L’Express, 3927 rue Saint-Denis: open since 1980 with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
- Modavie in Old Montreal is a further listed option.
- Many small Quebec restaurants let you bring your own wine, a custom called “apportez votre vin”. Ask when you book.
Winter weekends
In January and February the cold can be severe, with frostbite on exposed skin possible within minutes at around minus 30 degrees Celsius. Wear a hat and scarf, choose boots with grip, and walk between hotel, spa and restaurant using covered or short routes. The RESO underground city links many downtown hotels and metro stations indoors.
Getting there
From the airport, take the 747 bus, which costs $11.25 and doubles as a 24-hour STM pass, since the REM train does not yet reach the terminal. A taxi to downtown is reported at a flat fare of about $49, so check it first.
