Sofia With Kids: A Family Guide
Sofia’s family days revolve around three anchors, all a metro ride apart, with a park attached to two of them for when the kids need to burn energy rather than look at exhibits.
Muzeiko
At ul. Prof. Boyan Kamenov 3, close to Metro G.M. Dimitrov, Bulgaria’s children’s science center spreads 130-plus hands-on exhibits over three floors, grouped into the past, the present and the future: archaeology and geology, nature and cities, then space and robotics. Tickets run roughly €6-9, with a planetarium add-on around €1.00 and free entry under age 2. There is a cafe, lockers and stroller parking on site, and the museum’s design by Lee H. Sofia Zoo
Founded in 1888 at ul. Srebarna 1 in Hladilnika, this is the oldest and largest zoo on the Balkan Peninsula, spanning 235,000 square meters and holding over 2,000 animals, brown bears and elephants among them. It has an indoor freshwater aquarium and terrarium hall, but no marine sharks or ocean tunnels; those exist only at the coastal aquariums in Varna and Burgas. Kokolandia
Tucked into a forested section of Borisova Gradina near Nezabravka Street, this ropes park runs tree-top courses and zip lines graded by age and height, from toddler-level tracks to advanced teenage circuits, open April through October. South Park
