Vilnius with Kids on a Budget: Free and Cheap
The best thing to do with children in Vilnius costs nothing: the Bernardine Garden sits directly under Castle Hill with playgrounds, wide lawns and fountains, and you can park a family there for an afternoon for free. Build the rest of the trip around that and two cheap indoor museums, and a family week here stays remarkably affordable.

Bernardine Garden is the anchor

Is Vilnius Zoo worth taking children to?
It depends on their age. Zoopark Vilnius opened in August 2018 on Verkių Street across about 2,500 square metres, and it keeps roughly 60 to 90 species: turtles, geckos, lemurs and small mammals. There are no big cats and no penguins. For under-eights that is an hour of genuine interest; for older children who have seen a large European zoo it will feel thin. Price it as a short stop, not a day.

The train takes 30 to 35 minutes and costs €1.50 to €2.00 with no advance booking, and under-7s enter the museum free. One place to leave off a family itinerary
The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights on Lukiškės Square is a serious and important museum, and it is not a place to bring young children. Plan it for an evening when someone else has the children, or leave it for a trip without them.
