Day 1: Set Up Your Warsaw Base

Warsaw Chopin Airport sits about 10km from the center. Ride the S2 or S3 SKM train or bus 175 into town on the standard ZTM 75-minute ticket, 4.40 PLN ($1.15), and skip the touts at arrivals quoting 150 to 250 PLN for the same short ride. Day 2: Lodz

PKP Intercity runs Warszawa Centralna to Lodz Fabryczna more than 30 times a day, with a few nonstop services covering it in about an hour and most others taking 1h15. Fares run 25 to 70 PLN ($7 to $18) one-way booked a few weeks out, with Super Promo tickets sometimes dropping to 25 to 29 PLN ($7 to $8). Spend the day at Manufaktura , a converted 19th-century textile factory, then walk Piotrkowska Street, Poland’s longest promenade.

Day 3: Zelazowa Wola

Fryderyk Chopin’s birthplace sits 55km west, with no train station at the site itself; take a regional train to Sochaczew, 40 to 60 minutes, plus a short taxi, or use the Chopin Museum’s own seasonal bus (Monday to Thursday noon, Friday to Sunday 10:00, roughly May through September). A combined park, birthplace and exhibition ticket runs around 30 PLN ($8), free on Wednesdays.

Day 4: Kampinos National Park

Take bus 708 from the M1 metro’s Mlociny terminus to Truskaw, about 25 to 30 minutes, or bus 210 to Izabelin, on the same standard ZTM fare. Entry to Kampinos National Park is free, no booking involved. There is no bison here; that is Bialowieza, a much farther park entirely. Day 5: Torun

PKP Intercity runs Warszawa Centralna to Torun Glowny roughly every 2 to 3 hours; travel time runs 2h10 to 2h40, there is no EIC or EIP on this route. One-way fares run 40 to 190 PLN ($11 to $50) depending on how far ahead you book. Torun’s UNESCO-listed Gothic old town and Copernicus’s birthplace museum are the draw, along with the city’s pierniki (gingerbread) tradition.

Day 6: Treblinka

The memorial sits roughly 100 to 105km northeast of Warsaw, about 1h45 by car. Public transit is weak, a regional train to Malkinia plus a taxi, so a guided tour that bundles transport is the practical choice over a DIY attempt, and it is the one paid tour in this itinerary that is worth its price for the transit alone. Entry itself is free; a roughly 10 PLN ($3) fee covers parking if you are driving or arrive by tour vehicle. This is a former Nazi German extermination camp, not a preserved camp like Auschwitz-Birkenau; the structures were destroyed in 1943, so the memorial today is a field of symbolic stones, not standing barracks. Book the guided tour in the box above at least a couple of weeks ahead, since the better operators fill up, and give the day the weight it deserves rather than stacking it against an early flight the next morning.

Does Krakow work as a day trip from Warsaw, even with six days?

No, and six days is exactly why you do not need to force it. The fastest Pendolino still takes 2h20, most trains run 2h45 to 3 hours, and spending a full day on trains just to see a rushed few hours of Krakow wastes a day you could spend on any of the trips above instead. If you want Krakow, treat it as a genuine extension: book a night there separately (check Krakow hotel rates ) rather than trying to wedge it into this six-day, Warsaw-based plan.

Which of these six days needs the earliest booking?

Torun and Treblinka. Torun’s cheapest PKP Intercity fares release exactly 30 days out and move fast; Treblinka’s guided tour, genuinely worth booking given how weak public transit is out there, fills its better departure slots within a couple of weeks. Lodz, Zelazowa Wola and Kampinos all tolerate same-week planning without penalty.
