An attraction tour of Amman is a museum day, not a desert one; Petra and the Dead Sea belong on a separate day trip or multi-day itinerary, not stacked onto a city visit.
Ain Ghazal and the Copper Scroll
The Jordan Museum in Ras Al-Ayn holds two pieces worth building a visit around: the Ain Ghazal statues, plaster human figures dated to roughly 7500 BCE and among the oldest large-scale human sculptures ever found, and the Copper Scroll recovered from Cave 3 at Qumran, engraved with a list of 64 hidden temple treasure sites. A Martian Rover in a royal car museum
The Royal Automobile Museum, in Al Hussein Public Parks, holds over 70 vehicles from the personal collections of King Hussein and King Abdullah II, an armored Mercedes and a 1952 Aston Martin DB2 among them, plus the full-scale Martian Rover prop from Ridley Scott’s The Martian, donated after the film shot in Wadi Rum. Six villas of free contemporary art
Darat al Funun sits across six restored 1920s stone villas on Jabal Luwebdeh, built around olive trees and a 6th-century Byzantine church’s ruins. It’s the leading platform for contemporary Arab art in the country, rotating exhibitions and video installations, and it costs nothing to walk through.
