A romantic day in Copenhagen leans on heat and quiet rather than spectacle: a private sauna over the water, a slow boat with nowhere to be, a garden that only looks its best after the sun goes down.
Start with a private sauna

Then take the canals slowly
GoBoat, at Islands Brygge 10, rents silent electric picnic boats with a central oak table, no license needed. Stop at Torvehallerne beforehand for smørrebrød and a bottle of wine, then steer through Christianshavn’s willow-lined canals at whatever pace suits the afternoon; an hour runs about 499-549 DKK per boat. For a version with someone else steering, Hey Captain runs 12-passenger open boats from Ofelia Plads with wine or beer included, better suited to two people than a large commercial cruise, at roughly 350 DKK per person for an hour, booked at heycaptain.dk .
Frederiksberg Have at golden hour
An 18th-century English landscape garden at Frederiksberg Runddel, with winding waterways, weeping willows and an 1799 Chinese Pavilion. From the garden’s edge you can watch the elephants bathe for free in Norman Foster’s glass-domed Elephant House next door. Summer rowboat tours on the garden’s own canals run through Svendsens Bådfart for about 60 DKK. Entry is free, dawn to dusk.
Tivoli, after the sun goes down
Once the light fades, Tivoli’s gardens turn on more than 100,000 colored lanterns reflected in the lake. Book a table inside the glasshouse at Gemyse for vegetable-forward dining, or Nimb Brasserie for a more formal French menu overlooking the illuminated paths. Gate admission runs 145-155 DKK depending on the day, and Tivoli only operates three seasons a year, so check the calendar first.
A rooftop to close the night
Illum Rooftop, at Østergade 52, looks out over the spires of Christiansborg and Strøget below. Rooftop at Hotel Sanders, near Kongens Nytorv, offers a quieter conservatory setting with fireplaces.
