Kayaks, Climbing, Zipline and Rafting in Split
An active week in Split: sea, rock and river
Split is easy to base an active trip on. A peninsula park, a sandy bay and the Cetina canyon sit within an hour of the Riva, and each of the options below can be booked on its own. Prices are the latest listed figures, so confirm them when you book.
Sea kayak and snorkel tour
- What: a guided paddle and snorkel along the Marjan shoreline, with morning and sunset departures.
- Time and cost: roughly 3.5 to 4 hours, about €50 per adult on operator listings from Given2Fly and Red Adventures.
- Tip: choose a morning departure. Wind builds in the afternoon and makes the water choppier.
Picigin at Bačvice
- What: picigin is Split’s bare-handed ball game, played in the shallows of the sandy bay at Bačvice.
- Cost: nothing to watch.
- Tip: the bay is shallow and sandy, though the fringes are rocky, so water shoes are handy.
Sport climbing on Marjan
- What: the Šantine stine crags at the western end of the hill, with about 77 to 80 bolted routes graded roughly 4b to 8a and 10 to 30 m long.
- Tip: the face looks south and bakes in summer, so spring and autumn suit it best. The area is protected and has its own restrictions, so read the posted rules at the crag.
Zipline Omiš
- What: 8 lines totalling 2,100 m above the Cetina canyon, the longest 700 m and the highest point 150 m up.
- Time and cost: about 2.5 hours for €80.
- Rules: ages 7 and up, maximum weight 140 kg, open all year. The address is Josipa Pupačića 4, Omiš. Details are on the Zipline Omiš website .
Cetina rafting and canyoning
- What: rafting runs from Omiš between 1 April and 1 October, with canyoning offered by several operators at Zadvarje.
- Cost: about €38 to €40 per adult and about €25 per child for 3 to 4 hours of rafting.
- Getting there: Promet Split bus line 60 serves Omiš. The ticket is €2.50 when bought electronically and €5.00 on board.
Swimming at Bačvice
The bay has fine sand and shallow water, which is why it is the city’s standard swim spot.
Season and safety
- Wear water shoes on Marjan coves because of sea urchins and sharp rock.
- Marjan’s pine forest is a fire risk. Open fires are banned between 1 June and 31 October.
- Fast-boat and rafting seasons wind down in autumn, so check that an operator is still running in late October.
- The SplitCard is free for qualifying stays and cuts museum prices. It does not cover buses.
