Multi-Day Plans from Lautoka
Staying More Than a Day
From Lautoka you can head into the hills, out to the Yasawa Islands or north along the Kings Road. Fares and fees are in Fijian dollars (FJ$) unless an operator quotes another currency. Cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April, which can disrupt boats and gravel roads.
Mountain Stays at Koroyanitu
- Sleep at Nase Lodge, a 40-minute walk from Abaca village, in a lodge near the summit, or with a village family.
- Pack warm layers, a torch and your own food.
- Trails all start at the Abaca Visitor Centre, which can arrange guides.
- Entry is about FJ$25 to 30 per person, and the road from Lautoka is rough gravel for about 15 km (Tourism Fiji ).
Island Hopping in the Yasawas
Two ferry options serve the Yasawas.
- Tavewa Seabus from Lautoka: Departs Kings Jetty daily at 07:30, with check-in at 06:30, and the office is in the FPCL Building on Waterfront Road. The trip lasts 1 to 5 hours depending on the stop. Resorts on the route include Barefoot Kuata, Wayalailai, Mantaray, Barefoot Manta, Coralview, Nabua Lodge and Turtle Island. Ask the operator for fares.
- Yasawa Flyer from Port Denarau: A hop-on hop-off catamaran leaving in the morning, with day-return and week passes. The transfer from Lautoka to Denarau adds time (Fiji Pocket Guide ).
The Kings Road and the Highlands
The Kings Road runs north from Lautoka through Ba and on toward Tavua and Rakiraki. A natural loop goes Lautoka, Ba, then Navala, with 2 to 3 hours of driving each way to the village and about 25 km of gravel beyond Ba.
Across to Vanua Levu
Patterson Brothers operates a bus from Lautoka to Ellington Wharf, a ferry to Nabouwalu and a connecting bus to Labasa, on Monday and Friday. The bus leaves at around 4 am, so confirm the timetable at the Lautoka office.
