Romantic Escapes at Vuda Point and Beyond
Where Romance Sits Near Lautoka
Lautoka is Fiji’s sugar and cruise port, and a working harbour has little beach time to offer. Couples looking for a romantic stay do better at Vuda Point, north of the city toward Nadi Airport, or on an island resort offshore. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$).
First Landing Beach Resort and Villas
At Nalamu Beach, Vuda Point, First Landing offers beachfront villas, some with private pools, beside a calm beach next to Vuda Marina. It lies about 15 minutes north of Nadi Airport. Request current rates from the resort (First Landing Resort ).
Vuda Point Marina at Sunset
The marina has the Boatshed Restaurant & Sunset Bar between the airport and Lautoka. For hours and menus, call +679 666 8214 (Vuda Point Marina ).
Tanoa Waterfront Hotel
This is the city option: two pools, Fins Restaurant, and a Sunset Bar overlooking the harbour. It is a comfortable night in town before an early boat rather than a beach holiday (Tanoa Hotels ).
Island Days
- Malamala Beach Club: The beachside cabana costs FJ$139 for one or two people, added to the day pass. There is an adults-only area for guests aged 18 and over at no charge. Day passes begin at FJ$215 from Denarau, Nadi, Vuda or Wailoaloa, and boats leave Port Denarau at 09:30 (Malamala prices ).
- Tivua Island: Shade cabanas are available at extra cost. The boat leaves Port Denarau at 10:00.
A Yasawa Resort Stay
The Tavewa Seabus sails from Kings Jetty in Lautoka at 07:30 every day, taking 1 to 5 hours to reach island resorts in the Yasawas. Resorts set their own adults-only rules, so ask before booking.
Choosing Between Them
- Pick Vuda Point for a quiet beach and a marina sunset close to the airport.
- Pick Tanoa for a comfortable night in the city.
- Pick Malamala or Tivua for a day on a small island with a boat out and back from Port Denarau.
- Pick a Yasawa resort for several nights away from any city.
Tips for Couples
- Swim where lifeguards are posted, because rip currents occur near reefs.
- Cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April, so leave room in your plans for boat cancellations.
- Cover shoulders and knees in villages, and note that nudity and topless bathing are illegal.
- Take care at night, since serious crime is generally low but incidents do occur.
