Grand Turk and North Caicos Day Trips from Provo
Travel notice, October 2026: the US government rates the Turks and Caicos Islands Level 2 (“Exercise Increased Caution”) because of crime, and the British FCDO reports more serious crime on Providenciales and Grand Turk than on the other islands. Most incidents are opportunistic theft, so keep valuables hidden. Customs rules are severe: any ammunition, including one forgotten bullet in a bag, brings a minimum 12-year prison term, so search every bag before each flight. Hurricane season lasts until the end of November. Source: GOV.UK travel advice .
Providenciales is the base for most trips, and every day trip needs a boat or a plane. Fares are in US dollars. Timetables vary with the season, so confirm the return leg before you commit.

North and Middle Caicos
The ferry sails from Heaving Down Rock Marina (also known as Walkin Marina) to Bellefield Landing. Two operators run it: Caribbean Cruisin’ and MV My Girl. Between 1 September and 30 November the Caribbean Cruisin’ timetable has a reduced daily service, and it can change without notice, so read the operator’s schedule before you go. Caribbean Cruisin’ accepts Visa and Mastercard, but not Amex.
On arrival you need a car. Middle Caicos has no ferry and no working airport, and the causeway from North Caicos is the only way across. Book the rental ahead of time. A typical loop covers Wade’s Green near Kew, then Mudjin Harbour and the Conch Bar Caves ($30, guided). Phone the caves on +1 649-941-5710 before you drive over.
Mudjin Harbour is for looking, not swimming. The sandbar out to Dragon Cay is dry under most tide conditions, yet swell makes the water around it dangerous, with strong currents, sharp rock, urchins and hidden sinkholes. No lifeguards work there.
Grand Turk
No ferry joins Providenciales to Grand Turk. Caicos Express Airways and interCaribbean both fly the route, and a day-trip return costs about $150 per person. Reserve a few days ahead. A rental car runs about $90 a day and fuel about $7.20 a gallon, so a day on the island is not cheap. Pick the car up at the airport and not the Cruise Center. Many businesses close when no cruise ship is docked.
Typical stops are the National Museum, Cockburn Town’s Front Street and the lighthouse grounds. Livestock can wander onto the roads on Grand Turk.
Little Water Cay
Plan 2 to 3 hours from the Leeward area, including the crossing and the boardwalk walk. The Trust’s tours cost $20 or $25.
Gibbs Cay
This cay lies about 1 mile off the east coast of Grand Turk and forms part of a national park. Tours show visitors the stingrays, and rules forbid touching, feeding or lifting the animals.
Salt Cay
Treat Salt Cay as an overnight stop. The community ferry from Grand Turk sails only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaving Grand Turk at about 2:00 PM, and the boat back leaves Salt Cay at about 7:30 AM. A flight from Providenciales with Caicos Express is the alternative.
