Couples Getaways in Antigua and Barbuda
For two people, Antigua works best as a slow trip: a few well-chosen meals, a sunset on the water and a beach you can reach without a crowd. The high season runs from mid-December to mid-April. Resorts normally list their rates in US dollars, while local prices use the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$2.70 to US$1).
Cliff-top dining at Sheer Rocks
Sheer Rocks is a Mediterranean-style restaurant on a cliff near Valley Church, attached to Cocobay Resort but open to the public outside the resort’s all-inclusive plan. It took bookings through OpenTable in 2026. Ask when it opens for the season before you plan around it.
A beach lunch at Catherine’s Cafe
Pigeon Point Beach at English Harbour is home to Catherine’s Cafe, which serves French-style food at the water’s edge. It took OpenTable reservations in spring 2026 and reopened for the season in October 2025. Hours are listed as 10:30am to 6pm daily, so confirm on the day.
Where to stay
- Carlisle Bay, south-west coast. Phase one of a renovation ended with a reopening on 16 October 2025, and the work runs until November 2027. Some restaurants may be shut in the meantime. A seasonal closure ran from 15 August to 15 October in 2026.
- Curtain Bluff, south coast. An all-inclusive resort that shuts for the summer and reopens in early November.
- Hermitage Bay. Reopened on 12 October 2025 after a major renovation.
- Jumby Bay Island. A private-island resort off the north-east coast.
Many Antigua properties close from mid-August to mid-October or even later, in line with hurricane season, which ends on 30 November. Check dates before booking flights.
Sunset on the water
Evening catamaran sails depart from Falmouth, English Harbour and Jolly Harbour. Prices and inclusions differ between operators, so ask what is served on board.
A remote beach: Rendezvous Bay
Rendezvous Bay on the south coast is undeveloped. It has no road, no shops, no water and no dependable phone signal. Reach it by boat, or on the hard Wallings hike of 14 miles and about 5 hours (US$50 per adult). Take food, water and sun cover with you.
Beach sense
By law all beaches are public and each has a public way in, although resort loungers and services are extra. West and south-west beaches face the Caribbean and are calmer than the Atlantic shore. There is no guarantee of lifeguards, and drownings have occurred at calm bays, so stay within your depth. After dark, avoid isolated beaches, take licensed taxis and use the hotel safe.
