Naples by Bus on a Budget: Alibus to Amalfi
The cheapest bus tour is a public bus
Before you pay for an open-top tour, look at what the ordinary buses cost. A city ride is EUR1.30, the airport coach is EUR5 and the Amalfi Coast bus starts at a couple of euros. Organised tours still earn their price in a few cases, and this page sets out which.
From the airport: Alibus, EUR5
The ANM Alibus runs direct from Naples Airport to Napoli Centrale station and on to Molo Beverello, the port for Capri and Ischia. A single is EUR5, and you can pay by contactless card with Tap&Go or through the Unico Campania app. It is the cheapest way into the city and leaves you at the right place for a ferry or a train.
In the city: EUR1.30 a ride
An ANM single costs EUR1.30 on buses, trams and funiculars, and EUR1.50 on Metro Lines 1 and 6. A 90-minute integrated ticket valid across them was about EUR1.80, and fares changed on 1 October 2026, so check the current price on UnicoCampania before you buy. The old centre’s lanes are mostly too narrow for buses, so the metro and your feet do better there.
If you want commentary and a seat with a view, a hop-on hop-off loop links the main sights of the centre and seafront. You can compare hop-on hop-off tickets on Viator against a day of EUR1.30 rides; on a first afternoon the loop is a fair price for orientation.
For a do-it-yourself version, ride the Montesanto funicular up to Vomero for the view over the bay from Castel Sant’Elmo, come back down, then take a bus to the seafront and walk Lungomare Caracciolo to Castel dell’Ovo. Four rides at EUR1.30 add up to EUR5.20 for the whole loop, about the price of the Alibus from the airport.
The Amalfi Coast: SITA buses
The cheapest way along the Amalfi Coast is the SITA Sud public bus from Sorrento. Reported fares are about EUR2.40 from Sorrento to Positano and EUR3.40 from Sorrento to Amalfi, and a 24-hour COSTIERASITA ticket costs about EUR10. Timetables are on the SITA Sud site . Reach Sorrento on the regular Circumvesuviana from Napoli Garibaldi. The Campania Express tourist train has been suspended since 1 October 2026; EAV posts any change.
Seasonal ferries also link the coast from about mid-May, but in winter only the Sorrento to Naples boat runs, which makes the bus the year-round option.
When a coach tour pays
A full-day coach to the Amalfi Coast removes the change from train to bus in Sorrento, and that is worth paying for on a short trip or with children. Search Amalfi Coast day tours on GetYourGuide to compare. For Pompeii a coach makes less sense: the Circumvesuviana reaches Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri in about 35 minutes for around EUR3.30.
Passes that include buses
The Artecard Naples 3-day pass, listed at EUR27, bundles three museum entries with Unico transport in the city. The Campania 3-day version, listed at EUR41, covers Unico transport across the region but not the Alibus, SITA or some EAV buses. Check current prices on the Artecard site , and add up your planned entries before buying.
Money tips
- Never drive into the centre. Camera-enforced traffic-limited zones fine automatically, roughly EUR80 to EUR335.
- An airport transport strike hit on 26 September 2026, so check the strike calendar before an early flight.
- Keep your bag in front on the Circumvesuviana and around Piazza Garibaldi.

Pay the Alibus fare by contactless card with Tap&Go, and stay on to Molo Beverello if your first day is an island; the hydrofoils leave from there.
