Tel Aviv for Couples: Seafront and Old Jaffa
Planning note. Israel’s security situation can shift quickly, and sirens, flight cancellations and airspace closures are possible. Read your own government’s current travel advice when you book and again just before you travel, for example the UK’s advice for Israel . Choose flexible bookings, and ask your hotel where its shelter is.
Couples in Tel Aviv spend most of their time outdoors, walking along the sea and through old lanes. This page picks the settings that work for two, with costs in shekels (₪).
Golden hour by the sea
The Tayelet is the long, flat promenade that links Tel Aviv Port to Jaffa. Walk it an hour before sunset, when the light is soft and the heat has eased. Between May and October, the official bathing season, swimmers stay in front of the lifeguards, who work about 07:15 to 16:45. Outside that season the sea is for watching, as winter storms make it rough.
Old Jaffa after dark
Old Jaffa climbs a hill above its small port. From Clock Tower Square, wander through the stone lanes to the Abrasha Park viewpoint for the skyline across the bay. The flea market, a block east of the clock tower, is shut on Saturday, yet the bars and cafes nearby stay open that night.
Neve Tzedek
Founded in 1887, this district of low houses and small galleries is built around Shabazi Street. It suits a slow walk at the end of the afternoon, when the shops are closing and the streets are cooler.
A swim for two
Gordon Pool, at 14 Eliezer Peri Street, is a saltwater pool beside the sea. Published prices are around ₪65 for adults, and weekday hours start early in the morning. Check before you go.
Dinner and wine
HaBasta, at 4 HaShomer Street by Carmel Market, is a wine-led restaurant that builds its menu around what the market offers, and weekend tables go fast. Carmel Market shuts on Saturday and in the late afternoon on other days, so shop at lunch.
A museum evening
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is open until 21:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A regular ticket is ₪55, and the museum is closed on Sundays. Its visitor page has current hours.
Practical notes
- Trains and standard buses stop from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening, and free weekend buses called Na’im Busofash run in the gap.
- Hotels near the beach fill up around Pride Week in June and the autumn Jewish holidays.
- Taxis from the airport are a flat ₪150, and the train costs about ₪14 on weekdays.
