What each stop offers
The Substructures are the vaulted cellars below Diocletian’s Palace. The central hall between the Riva and the Peristyle can be walked through for free. Meštrović’s villa holds his sculpture, and the fortified Kaštilac next door holds his 28-panel wooden Life of Christ cycle. The Archaeological Museum, founded in 1820, is the oldest museum institution in Croatia. A joint ticket covering Salona and the Split museum costs €10 or €5 for concessions and stays valid for 7 days.
Klis Fortress
Klis is on a mountain pass, 12 km northeast of Split. A single ticket also reaches the Interpretation Centre at Mejdan Square, the Stella Croatica agro park and the Olive Museum. Hours differ between listings, so check them. Bus line 22 from Split costs €2.00 on the app and €4.00 from the driver.
Saving money
The SplitCard costs nothing if your stay is long enough: 5 nights or more between April and October, or 2 or more between November and March. It lasts 72 hours and is issued at the tourist information points on Peristil, the Riva and Stobreč. Entry to the Vidović Gallery, Ethnographic Museum and Natural History Museum is free with it. The Archaeological Museum, Tusculum and the Maritime Museum are half price, the Meštrović Gallery and Kaštelet 30 percent off, and the Substructures 25 percent off. The SplitCard page lists the rest.
