Atlanta for Couples: Evenings, Gardens, Dinners
A couple’s weekend in Atlanta works best when each day has one anchor: a garden, a long dinner or an evening show. The ideas below build around those anchors. Prices are in US dollars, and restaurants should be booked in advance.
A garden day
The Atlanta Botanical Garden opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is closed on Mondays. Its Kendeda Canopy Walk is a suspension bridge about 600 feet long that rises roughly 40 feet over Storza Woods, and it is a calm place to walk together. From November 14 to January 10 the garden holds Garden Lights, Holiday Nights, an after-dark display of lit sculptures and paths. See the garden’s visit page for tickets.
A dinner worth planning around
Three restaurants stand out:
- Bacchanalia in Westside Provisions serves a multi-course tasting menu. It was listed with one Michelin star in the 2026 American South guide.
- The Optimist in West Midtown is the seafood choice, in a restored mid-century building.
- Canoe in Vinings looks out over the Chattahoochee River and has landscaped gardens.
Menus and prices change, so confirm them when you reserve.
A night at the theater
The Fox Theatre has stood on Peachtree Street since 1929, and its auditorium is the main draw. If you prefer a daytime visit, the 60-minute Architecture & History Tour is open to the public, and the theater’s tour page has details. Everyone in the party needs a ticket.
Sunset on the BeltLine
The Eastside Trail is a paved path of about 2.4 miles between Piedmont Park and the Krog Street Tunnel. Start late in the afternoon in summer, when it is cooler, pass the murals at Historic Fourth Ward Park and Ponce City Market, and end at Krog Street Market. The BeltLine’s visit page shows the route.
A view over the park
SkyView Atlanta is a Ferris wheel of about 20 stories beside Centennial Olympic Park, with enclosed gondolas. Opening hours and ticket prices vary by season, so check them before you plan the evening.
A museum afternoon
The High Museum of Art is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon. It closes on Mondays. The museum’s visit page lists exhibitions.
Practical notes
Rideshare is easier than MARTA for dinners in Vinings and Westside. If you do use rail, the fare is $2.50 a trip. Summer evenings stay hot and humid, so pack light clothes. Never leave gifts or bags visible in a parked car. To find a hotel in Midtown or downtown, try a search on Booking.com for Atlanta .
