Family Days in Zurich: Zoo, Football, Science
A family day in Zurich can mix animals, football, science and lakeside play. Prices below are in Swiss francs (CHF); the zoo and Technorama figures come from secondary sources and may change, so check the official sites.
Zoo Zürich on the Zürichberg
Take tram 6 to the Zoo stop. The Masoala Rainforest is a large greenhouse with lemurs, chameleons, fruit bats and a canopy walkway. The elephant park Kaeng Krachan has underwater windows, and the Lewa Savanne holds rhinos, giraffes and zebras. Reported tickets: adults about CHF 32, teenagers 13 to 17 about CHF 27, children 6 to 12 about CHF 18, and a family day pass about CHF 85. Under-6s go free. Winter hours are shorter than summer hours.
Football and the World Cup trophy
The FIFA Museum is at Seestrasse 27, beside Bahnhof Enge, and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00. Adults pay about CHF 26 and children aged 7 to 15 about CHF 15, with under-7s free. Interactive stations let children test their kicking and commentary skills. It is free with the Zürich Card.
Hands-on science at Technorama
Technorama in Winterthur has hundreds of experiment stations on light, sound, electricity and mechanics, plus an outdoor park between April and October. Adults pay about CHF 33 to 34 and children 6 to 15 about CHF 21. Allow around 30 minutes of travel from Zürich HB.
Chocolate with a children’s rate
At the Lindt Home of Chocolate, children aged 8 to 15 pay CHF 10 and younger ones enter free. Booking a timed ticket online is the safest approach. The museum is shut on 3 November 2026.
Free play by the lake
The Blatterwiese playground at Zürichhorn is a free lakeside play area with wooden climbing frames and water pumps. The Chinese Garden is next door. Check which tram stop is best before you set off. At Bürkliplatz, the lakeside gardens have space for a picnic.
Boat trips and tickets
The glass-roofed Limmat boat (about CHF 4.60 for adults, CHF 3.20 reduced, April to October) is short enough for small children but can pause in low water. The Zürich Card costs CHF 19 for ages 6 to 15 for 24 hours and CHF 37 for 72 hours. Under-6s are free.
River safety
Keep children away from the Limmat edge. The current is strong, and official swimming spots are open in summer only.
