Family Friendly Activities in Doha
Check the advisory first (November 2026). Iranian missiles and drones struck Qatar from 28 February 2026, Doha’s airspace was shut for weeks, and passenger flights came back in stages from March to April. Further missile barrages over Doha were reported on 17 July. The UK government does not advise against all travel to Qatar (FCDO Qatar ), though it calls the situation deeply unpredictable. The US State Department has its own advisory. Families should confirm flights, insurance and cancellation terms before booking.
Why Doha works for families
Doha is compact and air-conditioned, with a metro, free museum entry for under-17s and a good stock of indoor attractions for hot months. Outdoor time suits November to March. From June to September daytime temperatures pass 40C and the humidity is heavy, so children do better indoors until the evening.
Museums for children
The National Museum of Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum all admit children aged 16 and under free, according to recent guides. Adults pay about QAR 50 at the Islamic art and sports museums and QAR 25 to 50 at the National Museum, so check Qatar Museums before you set a budget. The National Museum is closed on Tuesdays and the sports museum the same day, while the Museum of Islamic Art is closed on Wednesdays. Mathaf in Education City is free and closes on Mondays. All museums open until 19:00, 21:00 on Thursdays, and from 13:30 on Fridays.
Free and cheap time
Qatar National Library in Education City has free entry, a huge open reading hall and reported opening hours of 08:00 to 20:00 Saturday to Thursday and afternoons on Fridays. Check its site because it closed and reopened in 2026. The Metro Green Line goes straight to Education City. Metro rides cost about QAR 2 per journey, which makes it a cheap treat for children who like driverless trains.
Desert Falls Water and Adventure Park
Desert Falls sits inside Hilton Salwa Beach Resort at Abu Samra and takes an hour or more to reach by road. Adult tickets are reported at about QAR 195 and child tickets about QAR 150, with go-karts and laser tag priced separately. Book ahead, take sun protection and plan a late return.
Baladna Park near Al Khor
This dairy-farm park is on the North Road about 40 minutes to an hour north of the city. Tickets are sold at the entrance and some activities cost extra. Hours on an older official notice were Saturday to Thursday 10:00 to 19:00 and Friday 13:00 to 22:00. Let children look from a distance rather than touching the animals.
Evenings
Place Vendome Mall in Lusail has dancing fountains every hour from 19:00 to 23:00. Qanat Quartier at the Pearl has canal-side lanes for an easy stroll, and Katara Cultural Village has free entry with an amphitheatre and a seasonal beach.
