Krabi Adventure Sports: What Each One Costs
An adrenaline holiday in Krabi can cost under ฿1,000 a day or well over ฿4,000, and the gap is mostly diving. Here is the price ladder from the cheapest sport to the dearest, with the add-ons that quietly push each one up.
Under ฿1,000: kayak or hike
The cheapest guided adventure is a half-day sea kayak tour through the mangroves and limestone gorges of Ao Thalane, north of Ao Nang, at about ฿500 to ฿800 per person. You paddle the whole time, so it is a real workout, and the price normally includes the guide and the kayak.
Hikers can go cheaper still. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park charges ฿100 for foreign adults, ฿50 for children and ฿30 per vehicle, and its rainforest trail to the five-tier Huai To waterfall needs no guide. Your main cost is transport there.
฿1,000 to ฿1,500: learn to climb
A beginner rock climbing half-day on Railay costs about ฿1,000 to ฿1,500, with an instructor, harness, climbing shoes and a chalk bag included, and you usually get three or four routes. Add the longtail from Ao Nang, ฿100 each way in daylight and up to ฿150 after dark. The area has more than 700 bolted routes from grade 4a to 8c, so the course is the start of a habit rather than the whole story. Search Railay climbing courses on Viator to compare group sizes.
Verdict: this is the best value adventure in Krabi. For roughly the price of a dinner for two on the Ao Nang waterfront, you get half a day on some of the most famous sport-climbing rock in the world.
฿3,200 to ฿4,200: dive the reefs
Certified divers pay about ฿3,200 to ฿4,200 for a two-tank day at sites such as Shark Point, Anemone Reef or around Phi Phi. That normally covers the boat, a divemaster, equipment, breakfast and lunch. Leopard sharks, blacktip reef sharks, morays and turtles are the regulars. Dives inside the Phi Phi marine park also carry a national park fee, reported at about ฿400 per foreign adult, which may not be in the quoted price. Compare Krabi dive days on GetYourGuide and check what is included before paying.
The costs that add up
- Park fees. Island and forest parks charge separately from tours, so ask whether a quote includes them. The Phi Phi marine park page lists its rules.
- Transport. Scooters rent for about ฿150 to ฿250 a day plus fuel, and songthaews between Krabi Town and Ao Nang cost about ฿60.
- Insurance. Check that your policy covers climbing and diving, and motorbikes if you ride one.
- Deep-water soloing. Unroped climbing above the sea is often suspended for safety, so do not budget for it unless a Railay shop confirms trips are running.
When to go
Dive and boat-based sports are cheapest to plan outside the May to October monsoon, when rough seas cancel trips at short notice. During the rains, climbing and forest hikes are the safer spend. Read the UK government safety advice for Thailand for the sea and road risks, including its warning never to leave your passport with a rental shop.

Tip: book the dive day early in your trip, so a weather cancellation leaves time to rebook, and keep at least a full day between your last dive and your flight home.
