Krabi Activities for Calm Seas and Monsoon Days
Krabi has two personalities, and the sea decides which one you get. Outside the monsoon the water is the main attraction. From May to October it turns rough and the best plans move onto land. Pack both lists and let the weather choose.
When the sea is calm
Sea kayaking at Ao Thalane. A half-day paddle takes you through mangrove channels and between limestone walls, with kingfishers, monitor lizards and crab-eating macaques along the banks. Listings run from about ฿500 to ฿800 per person.
Island days. Longtail boats run the Four Islands circuit, and faster boats go to the Hong Islands and Phi Phi. Each of these trips is a separate product, and a national park fee is payable on the day for the island parks. Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh is closed to landings from 1 August to 30 September each year. Swimming there is banned all year, and boats stay outside the bay.
Snorkelling and diving. Divers go to Shark Point and Anemone Reef for leopard sharks, moray eels and turtles. Snorkellers do best at Koh Poda on the Four Islands trip. You can browse Krabi activities on Viator to compare dive and snorkel departures.
Rock climbing. Railay and Ton Sai have more than 700 bolted routes graded 4a to 8c. Beginners usually book a half-day with an instructor, who supplies the harness and shoes. Railay is reachable only by boat, with longtails at ฿100 per person each way from Ao Nang, and a surcharge in the evening.
When the monsoon arrives
From May to October, swells build, boats are cancelled on short notice and rip currents run along open beaches. Jellyfish are more common too. Treat any sailing plan as provisional, and wear a life jacket on every boat. The UK government safety advice for Thailand sets out the sea and road warnings in detail.
Caves and temples. Diamond Cave in Railay has a lit walkway, and Tiger Cave Temple near Krabi Town has about 1,260 steps to the summit, so go at dawn.
Waterfalls and pools. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park has a tiered waterfall, with entry at ฿100 for adults and ฿50 for children. Hot Springs Waterfall costs ฿200 and ฿100, and Emerald Pool ฿400 and ฿200, in cash, at 08:30 to 17:00.
Classes. Southern Thai cooking classes in Ao Nang and Krabi Town start with a market visit, then you pound curry paste and cook massaman. Batik painting and Muay Thai training are also offered. You can see Krabi cooking classes on GetYourGuide for current options.
Markets. The Krabi Town walking street runs Friday to Sunday from 17:00 to 22:00, and Ao Nang has evening markets near Nopparat Thara beach.
Planning notes
The visa-exempt stay is up to 30 days, normally with two entries per calendar year, and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card is free and filed online within 3 days before arrival. Details are on the Tourism Authority of Thailand site . Cash in baht covers boats, songthaews and park gates.

Tip: check the sea state at breakfast, and keep your cave or waterfall booking flexible enough to swap with a boat day.
