Museum Tours and Guided Visits in Siauliai
Šiauliai is not a city of coaches and loudspeakers. Formal tours here are few and small, and most of the guided experiences come from museums and venues rather than from tour companies. The list below shows what is on offer, who to ask and what it costs. Everything is priced in euros.
At a glance
- Museum guide at an Aušra Museum branch: 30 EUR per tour.
- Cathedral tower climb: guided only, through the tourist office.
- Rūta chocolate visit with tasting: 20 EUR per person.
- Gubernija brewery: tours on festival days.
- Hill of Crosses: day tours sold from Riga and Vilnius.
- City routes: self-guided, free.
Museum guides
Three Aušra Museum branches offer a guided tour at 30 EUR per tour and no concessions: Chaim Frenkel Villa at Vilniaus g. 74, the Bicycle Museum at Vilniaus g. 139 and the Photography Museum at Vilniaus g. 140. Arrange it through the museum. Without a guide, entry is 8 EUR for adults and 4 EUR reduced. Entry is free to every branch on the last Sunday of the month and on a few extra Sundays the museum announces. At the villa, the permanent display follows the Frenkel family and the Jewish community of Šiauliai until the Holocaust, so a guide adds useful context to a sombre visit.
The cathedral tower
The cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul dates from the early 1600s and is Renaissance with Mannerist features. Its tower rises about 70 m, and you can go up only in a guided group. The tourist office at Vilniaus g. 213-90, reachable on +370 41 523 110, arranges this and lists the city’s route options.
Rūta chocolate visit
At Tilžės g. 133 the Rūta museum offers a two-hour guided visit with a chocolate tasting. The price is 20 EUR per person, with groups of 6 to 20 and a minimum charge of 120 EUR. Reserve by phone on +370 610 41 050, and note that adults are the recommended audience. A basic entry ticket costs about 5 to 6 EUR.
Gubernija brewery
The brewery dates its founding to 1665 and calls itself Lithuania’s oldest operating industrial enterprise. Free tours were held during the city’s September festival, Šiauliai Days, in 2025 and 2026. There is no standing schedule, so follow the company’s own channels for new dates.
Day tours to the Hill of Crosses
Third-party companies run day tours to the Hill of Crosses from Riga and Vilnius. The hill lies about 12 km north of Šiauliai and roughly 220 km from Vilnius, around 2.5 to 3 hours each way. The site is free to enter, a Catholic pilgrimage place, and a tour here is a quiet one.
Booking notes
- Phone ahead for museum guides, tower climbs and Rūta tastings.
