Pokhara's Skyline, Lake and Temple Circuit
Pokhara’s sights split cleanly into a pre-dawn ridge climb and a valley-floor circuit of temples, falls, and caves. Here is what each one actually costs and takes.
Sarangkot before sunrise
Leave Lakeside by 05:00 in summer, 05:45 in winter, to reach the Sarangkot viewing towers at 1,600m in time for first light on Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, and Machapuchare in sequence. The Annapurna Cable Car runs the same route from Sedi Bagar in nine minutes, opening at 05:00 for exactly this purpose, NPR 1,500 round trip for foreign visitors; paragliding launch windows from the same ridge are set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal . Two hilltop shrines
Shanti Stupa, the World Peace Pagoda, sits at 1,100m on Anadu Hill south of the lake, free to enter, reachable by a lake crossing plus a 45-minute forest walk or a 25-minute taxi via Chhorepatan. Higher up, at 1,500m, the Pumdikot Shiva statue stands 51 feet tall among 108 miniature lingams, with an unobstructed 360-degree valley view.
Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave
Opposite each other in Chhorepatan: Davis Falls, where the Pardi Khola disappears into a limestone chasm, and Gupteshwor Cave, a spiral stairway down to a natural Shiva lingam and a balcony beneath the falls. NPR 100 entry each. Between June and September the lower cave walkway floods and closes; stay behind the railings even when it is open, the stone is slick.
Bindhyabasini Temple
An 18th-century pagoda to Goddess Durga (as Bhagwati), on a hillock in Miruwa, in Pokhara’s old northern quarter, distinct from the island temple of Tal Barahi in Phewa Lake, which sits a paddleboat ride from Lakeside.
The Seti Gorge
A near-invisible limestone chasm cut by the Seti Gandaki straight through the city, over 50m deep in places and only a few feet wide. View it from KI Singh Bridge or the municipal gorge park in Bagar, NPR 100 entry, and further landmark listings are kept current by the Nepal Tourism Board .
Putting a day together
