Family Days Out in Pokhara
Flat lakeside paths, short transfer times, and calm water make Pokhara easier with children than most of Nepal’s mountain towns. None of it needs the licensed-guide requirement the Nepal Tourism Board enforces for Annapurna treks. Here is what works, and the two rules worth enforcing regardless of age.
Skip the switchback road
The Annapurna Cable Car climbs from Sedi Bagar to Sarangkot in nine minutes, gliding over terraced farms and pastures instead of grinding up a winding mountain road. Boats, with jackets on every child
A paddleboat or traditional wooden doonga carries families across Phewa Lake to the island temple of Tal Barahi. Life jackets are legally mandatory on every boat here, with no exception for short crossings or for a child who swims well; check every buckle before the boat leaves the dock.
Davis Falls and Gupteshwor Cave
The roar of Davis Falls disappearing underground, followed by the spiral stairway down into Gupteshwor Cave past stalactites and a hidden river passage, tends to read as adventure rather than danger to most kids, foreign entry runs NPR 100 per site. Stay behind the marked railings; the limestone is coated in algae, and monsoon-season water levels rise fast enough to close the lower walkway.
International Mountain Museum

Pony rides and lakeside cycling
Gentle pony rides run along the grassy southern shore, and tandem bicycles rent along the paved Lakeside strip, easy half-hour breaks between bigger stops.
Two rules that matter
Skip the 7-to-10-hour Prithvi Highway bus ride with young kids during monsoon; the 25-minute Buddha Air or Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu is worth the extra fare. And never let a child board any Phewa or Begnas Lake boat without a properly fastened life jacket, no matter how still the water looks.
