What works for couples

Cancún offers a short list of romantic ideas, and all of them are about food, water and sunsets. Below are the ones with confirmed details, priced in pesos or dollars as sellers list them.

Dinner options

Columbus galleon on Nichupté Lagoon. The ship leaves Marina Aquatours around Km 6.25 to 6.5 for a 2.5-hour dinner with live music. You choose lobster, steak or a vegetarian plate. Expect a dock fee of about US$15 on top. Keep to your seat, as crocodiles live in the lagoon.

Lorenzillo’s. A lobster restaurant on the lagoon at Km 10.5, Punta Cancún. OpenTable lists it as open every day for lunch and dinner, closing at midnight in 2026. Reserve before you go.

Out on the water

Hire a private charter for a sunset sail over Bahía de Mujeres. Choose a licensed operator and confirm duration, drinks and the marine-park wristband (reported at about 125 MXN in 2026) in advance.

A day on Isla Mujeres

Catch the Ultramar boat from Puerto Juárez, which costs about 580 MXN return for a foreign adult and takes 20 to 30 minutes. A golf cart for the day is about 1,300 MXN (1,200 to 1,600). Settle on Playa Norte for the afternoon, as it tends to be among the cleaner beaches, then drive to Punta Sur to watch the sun go down. Resort spa

Most resorts offer couples spa treatments. Ask your hotel what it sells and book ahead.

Left out on purpose

Jet skis, banana boats and deep-sea fishing suit adventure trips and do not belong on a romantic plan. Playa Delfines is a sunrise and sunset viewpoint with strong rip currents, so enjoy it from the sand. Dolphin swims are banned across Mexico.

Tips

  • Pay in pesos: dollars are accepted in the Hotel Zone but the rate is usually poor.
  • Every foreign visitor to Quintana Roo pays Visitax, about 285 MXN (about US$15), at visitax.gob.mx .
  • Check the flag colour and the sargassum traffic light before a beach day.
  • Stay cautious downtown after dark, and use registered taxis.
  • Hurricane season is 1 June to 30 November.
