Romantic Stay in Petra and Wadi Musa
Advisory as of October 2026. The 2026 conflict involving Iran has disrupted commercial flights across the region, and the US State Department currently marks Jordan Level 3 (“Reconsider Travel”), with Level 4 (“Do Not Travel”) along the Syrian and Iraqi borders and in a handful of named districts. The UK FCDO is narrower: it advises against travel only within 3 km of the Syrian border and carries no warning for Petra or Wadi Musa. Both places are open and running, yet flights may be cancelled or rerouted and advice can change without notice. Check the UK FCDO page and the US State Department page before booking, and once more before departure.
Wadi Musa has no coast or lake, and its charm is stone, lamplight and silence. A stay of two or three nights fits one evening walk, one slow dinner and a couple of unhurried mornings. Prices are in Jordanian dinars (JD).
The evening walk: Petra by Night
The night walk is offered Sunday to Thursday only, so arrive on a weekday evening. It starts at 8:30 pm at the Visitor Center and ends by 10:30 pm. Tickets cost 30 JD each and are bought in person on the day at the Petra by Night office, where a valid daytime ticket or Jordan Pass must be shown. Lanterns light the Siq, and a projection show animates the Treasury facade. Turn up 10 minutes early, and expect a cancellation if the weather turns. Official details sit at petrabynight.jo .
A tomb for a nightcap
Beside the Petra gate, the Petra Guest House Hotel runs the Cave Bar in an original Nabataean tomb. It pours daily from 2:00 pm to midnight and says it is the oldest bar in the world. This is a bar, not a dining room, so eat first. Learn more at petraguesthousehotel.com .
A cooking date
At Petra Kitchen, couples cook a mezze-style meal together and eat it afterwards. The class is on Tourism Street, inside the Petra Boutique Hotel, at 35 JD per person with soft drinks and recipes included. Start times are 6:30 pm from March to October and 6:00 pm from November to February. Book through petrakitchen.com because seating is limited.
Places to sleep
- Petra Bubble Luxotel, on Little Petra Main Street about 5 to 8 minutes from Petra, offers bubble-style suites with private hot tubs. A few guests report hot tub faults, so confirm yours works.
- Seven Wonders Bedouin Camp has family-run tents near Little Petra, roughly 10 minutes by car from the Visitor Center, with shared bathrooms.
- Gate hotels: the Mövenpick Resort Petra stands next to the entrance. It and the Petra Marriott are reported to offer spas.

A slow morning in a hammam
The Petra Turkish Bath and the Al Yakhour Turkish Bath are reported to give steam and scrubs. Ask the price first, and ask whether two people can book together.
Golden-hour walks
Pick the High Place of Sacrifice or the Al-Khubtha viewpoint for the warm light of mid to late afternoon. Keep to the park hours, which end between 4:00 and 6:00 pm depending on the season, and be at the gate before closing. Visitors have been locked in overnight, so a descent in the dark is never a plan.
