Romantic Weekend in Nakuru

Nakuru suits couples who like wildlife, early mornings and wide views. It has no lake cruises, since Lake Nakuru has no boat product. Balloon flights are offered near Lake Elementaita, not over Lake Nakuru. The weekend below is built around the park, two lodges and a castle lawn.
Friday: arrive and settle
Drive from Nairobi by day, about 150 to 160 km on the A104. Two lodges stand inside Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge and Lake Nakuru Lodge, and both show 2026 rates on listings. Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge is a third name to look at. Rates, room types and extras differ, so ask the lodge directly. Search stays on Booking.com .
Saturday: a slow park day
Enter at first light, when the air is cold at about 1,850 m and the animals are out. Watch for rhinos, giraffes and buffalo, then stop at Baboon Cliff, the park’s highest viewpoint, which has a picnic site. Keep food sealed in the vehicle and never feed the baboons. Come back for the evening light at Out of Africa Lookout, remembering that the Nderit Gate is open from 06:00 to 18:00 and that gate use should be confirmed with the Kenya Wildlife Service.
Sunday: castle and lake
Drive to Lord Egerton Castle near Njoro for a picnic on the lawns. The building has about 52 rooms and was finished in 1954, and the story told is that its owner built it to win over a woman who turned him down. Fees are quoted over a wide range, so ask before you go. If you have the energy afterwards, Lake Elementaita is about 25 to 30 km from Nakuru and is a calm spot for scenery and birds. Flamingos there are very few at present.
Costs for two
Two non-resident adults pay USD 180 for park entry per 24 hours. Kenya residents pay KSh 2,025 each and East African citizens KSh 1,500 each. These come from the October 2025 KWS fee schedule , and a High Court challenge to them is on record, so confirm on KWSPay when you pay online in advance.
