Day 1: The castle and the Altstadt

Day 5: Schwetzingen Palace and gardens
Train or bus to Schwetzingen (roughly 20 minutes, verify current timetable), the Palatinate Electors’ former summer residence. The real draw is the gardens, French Baroque formality blending into English landscape style, plus follies including a mosque-style pavilion. Tip: bring a picnic, the gardens are large enough that a packed lunch beats backtracking into town.
