Day 1: The Rynek and the dwarf hunt
The Rynek, one of Europe’s largest medieval market squares, is free to stand in; the Gothic Old Town Hall houses the City Museum, a separate paid ticket (estimate 20 PLN). Hunt dwarf statues (krasnale) around the square and side streets, free, then walk to Plac Solny and the Hansel and Gretel houses (Jaś i Małgosia), both free. Dinner in the Four Denominations District.

Day 2: Ostrow Tumski, Panorama Raclawicka, and Centennial Hall
Ostrów Tumski, the oldest part of the city, is free to walk; the Cathedral’s tower lift is a separate ticket (estimate 10 PLN). Panorama Racławicka (estimate 35 PLN), the 360-degree cyclorama of the 1794 Battle of Racławice, is a short walk back toward the center. Tram out to Centennial Hall in the afternoon, free to view the dome and Pergola from outside; the Zoo and Afrykarium (estimate 60 PLN) or the Japanese Garden alone (estimate 12 PLN) are separate paid add-ons. Return to Ostrów Tumski at dusk for the hand-lit gas lamps if you can.

Day 3: Ksiaz Castle and the Swidnica Church of Peace
Książ Castle, Poland’s third-largest castle, sits near Wałbrzych, roughly 70km southwest of Wrocław (verify current travel time); guided tours reach several sections of the WWII-era Project Riese tunnel complex beneath the grounds. Świdnica’s Church of Peace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001, is a 17th-century timber-framed Lutheran church, one of the largest such buildings left in Europe, roughly 50km from Wrocław. Both are reachable by regional bus or train with a local connection.

Day 4: The Karkonosze mountains via Karpacz
Karpacz, the spa town serving the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains), sits roughly 1.5-2 hours southwest of Wrocław by bus (verify current schedule and fare). Śnieżka, the range’s highest peak at 1,603m, straddles the Czech-Polish border; a chairlift up to Kopa (1,377m) shortens the climb for hikers who’d rather not do the full ascent on foot. Karpacz is also home to the relocated Norwegian Wang stave church (verify current visiting details). Pack for mountain weather even in summer, conditions change fast at altitude.

Getting around on 4 days: what needs booking ahead
Days 1 and 2 are mostly walkable plus a tram or two; a 24-hour MPK pass (about 15 PLN, verify) helps on Day 2. Days 3 and 4 both need regional transport out of the city, neither covered by the city transit pass, and neither runs on a strict timed slot, walk-up tickets work at both.
