A Long Weekend in Polis and Latchi
Polis and Latchi suit a short stay of two or three days, with the sea, a museum and the first stretch of the Akamas coast. Polis Chrysochous is in north-west Cyprus, about 35 km from Paphos, and the nearest airport is Paphos. Prices are in euros.
Option A: two days
Day 1. Morning at the Marion-Arsinoe museum, which is free and opens Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 15:00. Afternoon on the Municipal Beach. Supper at Latchi harbour.
Day 2. A Blue Lagoon cruise from Latchi, then the Baths of Aphrodite, where visitors may look at the grotto pool and garden but are asked not to swim.
Option B: three days
Keep days 1 and 2, then add one of these.
Pomos coast. Drive to Pomos, roughly 20 to 25 km from Polis, for the fishing harbour and the Dragon Cave. Reach the cave by boat or by steps from a small car park. Kanalli nearby is a pebble beach below steep cliffs.
Aphrodite Nature Trail. The loop from the Baths is 7.5 km and takes 3 to 4 hours. Start early and carry water, because the fountains on it are not for drinking.
Paphos. Go south by bus or car, about 35 km, for Kato Paphos and the Tombs of the Kings.
Moving between places
- Route 645 runs between Paphos Karavella and Polis in about an hour, roughly hourly, for about EUR 2.
- Route 622 serves Polis, Prodromi, Latchi and the Baths of Aphrodite.
- Times are on pafosbuses.com , or phone +357 8000 5588.
- A rental car handles the paved roads. It is not suited to the Akamas track beyond the Baths, and most rental contracts exclude unpaved roads.
Where to sleep
Anassa, at Asprokremmos beach near Neo Chorio about 8 km west of Polis, has 166 rooms, suites and residences and finished a EUR 10 million refurbishment in 2026. Other stays can be found in Polis and Latchi.
Seasons and rules
Lifeguards work the Polis beaches from April to October. The Blue Lagoon is crowded from 11:00 to 14:00 in summer, so sail early. Lara Bay has strict rules from early June to late September, and nesting runs about June to August, but it is reached by a rough track and most tours start in Paphos, so it fits a fourth day better than a third.
Money
Booking sites show a basic Blue Lagoon cruise at about 25 to 30 US dollars an adult, and all-inclusive longer trips from EUR 65. A self-drive 50 HP motorboat at Latchi starts from about EUR 120 for the boat, so check the hire terms. The museum is free, and so are the Baths of Aphrodite.
Further afield
Troodos is a separate inland trip and does not belong in a three-day Polis plan. The Avakas Gorge trail is closed, and has been since 6 December 2025.
