Polis Sights: Marion Museum and Aphrodite Baths
Polis Chrysochous is small, and the main sights fit into a day. The town is in Paphos District in north-west Cyprus, about 35 km from Paphos. Prices are in euros.
Marion-Arsinoe museum
- Address: Leoforos Makariou III 26, Polis.
- Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00, Saturday 09:00 to 15:00. Closed Sunday and public holidays.
- Cost: free on the VisitCyprus page.
- Inside: two rooms and an atrium. The first room follows the Neolithic to Medieval periods, and the second shows finds from the local necropolis.
- Outdoors: there are only excavation plots, so there are no ruins to walk around.
Baths of Aphrodite
The Baths are about 11 km west of Polis, beyond Latchi. A small grotto pool and a botanical garden sit under an old fig tree. Free entry. Please stay out of the pool. Both nature trails begin here.
Latchi harbour
A working fishing harbour, with fish tavernas and the kiosks that sell boat trips. Boats here include Nafsika II and Koulla, Atlantis Boat Latchi and Paphos Sea Cruises.
Agios Andronikos church
A 16th-century church in Polis, once a mosque, with Byzantine frescoes. A government notice of March 2023 closed it to the public, so check access before planning around it.
From the sea
A Blue Lagoon cruise shows the Akamas coast and the Baths of Aphrodite from the water. A basic trip takes 2.5 to 3 hours, and booking sites show about 25 to 30 US dollars an adult.
A one-day loop
Start at the museum when it opens at 08:00 on a weekday, then drive west through Latchi to the Baths of Aphrodite. Return to Latchi for lunch at the harbour, and spend the afternoon at the Municipal Beach in Polis. If the day is a Sunday, the museum is closed, so swap the order and keep the Baths for the morning.
Beaches
Polis has two. The Municipal Beach has deep golden sand and a 2026 Blue Flag, with toilets, showers and a Seatrac sea-access chair. The Camping Site (Dasoudi) beach has sand and pebbles and is reached by road. Lifeguards work both from April to October.
On the trails
The Aphrodite Nature Trail leaves from the Baths and takes 3 to 4 hours for a 7.5 km loop. Carry water, because its two fountains are not drinkable. UK government travel advice does not warn against travel to Cyprus.
