The museum has 15 galleries of ceramics, calligraphy, costume, jewellery and carpets from the 7th to the early 20th century. A single ticket costs about 32 to 37 TND for adults and 24 TND for children aged 4 to 12, and children under 4 enter free. Hours are 09:00 to 17:00 for the museum and 08:00 to 22:00 for the village. The ticket also admits you to a crocodile area, which is not a recommended stop.
Mosquée Fadhloun, Khazroun. A fortified rural mosque from the 14th century, standing beside the Houmt Souk to Midoun road. Entry is 5 TND for non-residents. It opens in the morning only and is closed every Friday, and you may find the interior locked while the grounds stay open.
On the water
Kitesurfing is the main water sport in Midoun’s area. The lagoon on the north-east shore is flat and shallow, which helps beginners. KiteWorldWide Kitecenter Djerba, Kite Aventure and Les Dauphins are real schools on the island. Ask each one for current lesson rates, board hire and the best months for steady wind.
Swimming deserves care. Some beaches fly flags to show conditions, and the FCDO advises asking locally if there are no flags, lifeguards or signs. Keep children supervised at all times.
On the green
Djerba Golf Club is in the Midoun tourist zone. It has 27 holes, laid out as three nines called Les Acacias, La Mer and Les Palmiers. The architect was Hawtree, and the club opened in 1995. Contact the club for tee times and fees.
Landmarks and local life
Taguermess lighthouse rises about 45 to 49 metres at Ras Taguermess. The grounds are the place to look, since access to the tower itself varies. Midoun’s weekly market adds colour to the town centre. Ask locally about the market days.
