Painted Dog Conservation
Plan on up to about 2 hours at the centre, which stands opposite Hwange National Park Airport and outside the park, so there is no park fee. Opening hours are about 08:00 to 17:00. A guide says it shuts on the last weekend of each month, so ring ahead. It is a rehabilitation and conservation centre rather than a zoo.
Victoria Falls Crocodile Farm
The farm was formerly called Spencer’s Creek Crocodile Farm and was established in the 1950s. It is a commercial farm with feeding times, a curio shop and a snake park. Treat it as a working farm, not a conservation sanctuary. Opening times are about 08:00 to 17:00 on one listing. Avoid any lion encounter on offer.
Bamba Tram
The Bamba Tram has operated since April 2022 and is run by the people behind the Bamba Bus. It leaves from Three Monkeys, passes through the national park and ends at the bridge. The sunrise trip lasts about 1.5 hours.
Victoria Falls Hotel tea
The hotel opened in 1904, and afternoon tea runs from about 15:00 to 17:30 on Stanley’s Terrace, although one source says 18:00. Non-guests are welcome, so book a table.
Elephant Express
This open-sided railcar for 22 passengers runs about 70 km, roughly 2 hours each way, on the railway between Dete Siding and Ngamo Siding. Passengers then take a 10 to 15 minute game-vehicle drive to Imvelo’s Bomani or Camelthorn lodges. Departures follow the railway, and the best source for current running is dated 2022, so ask Imvelo first. The experience is about watching wildlife from the train, not about touching elephants.
