Multi-Day Amazon Trips from Manaus
Multi-day Amazon trips from Manaus
Time spent away from Manaus is usually spent at a river lodge or on a riverboat. The lodge options below differ in river, distance and size, so compare them before you pick.
Lodge comparison
- Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge. Rio Negro, about 180 km from Manaus, 22 rooms, packages of 3 to 6 days with transfers included.
- Juma Amazon Lodge. Autazes, about 100 km from Manaus, on the Juma River, 20 bungalows and a pool of river water.
Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge
Published examples put the cost near R$2,700 to R$2,970 per person for 3 days. That is an older rate, so ask for today’s price. The lodge is on the Rio Negro, a blackwater river with fewer mosquitoes than a whitewater one. That is a comfort and not a guarantee, so keep taking health precautions. An article about the park is on CNN Brasil .
Juma Amazon Lodge
The lodge is on the Juma River at Autazes, which puts it off the Rio Negro. Guests sleep in bungalows. Ask the lodge how transfers from Manaus work and what the current rates are.
Staying safe on a lodge trip
- Use a licensed operator and licensed guides.
- Do not walk in the forest alone.
- Do not swim in the river channels.
- Do not handle animals. After-dark caiman spotting is done by boat and is observation only.
Gaiola riverboats
Riverboats called gaiolas depart the Porto Flutuante for Santarém and Belém. The voyages take days, so visit the port to learn about timetables, cabins and hammock space. The road is not an alternative: the BR-319 to Porto Velho is paved only at both ends, the middle is a mud road, and paving restarted in April 2026 amid court disputes. Plan on arriving and leaving by air or river.
When to go
The dry season, roughly August to November, brings shallow channels and longer boat transfers. The record low at Porto de Manaus was 12.11 m on 9 October 2024. On 27 October 2026 the gauge read 16.59 m. A university forecast said it might keep dropping into early November. Check the gauge before you book.
Health
The CDC advises yellow fever vaccination for Amazonas from nine months of age, at least 10 days before departure, and Brazil does not require it for entry. Malaria occurs across all of Amazonas, with prophylaxis recommended after a doctor visit about a month ahead. See the CDC Brazil page .
