Attraction Tours on Djerba from Midoun
Four attraction tours cover most of what visitors want from Djerba, and all four can start from Midoun. Midoun lies on the east side of the island, so none needs a ferry. Operators set their own prices, so ask for a written total before you commit.
Tour 1: Island heritage loop by taxi or minibus
This half-day outing strings together Mosquée Fadhloun, Erriadh, Houmt Souk and Guellala.
- Fadhloun, a 14th-century mosque in Khazroun. It is open only until noon and closed all day on Fridays, so schedule it first on a weekday.
- Erriadh, for the Djerbahood murals.
- Houmt Souk, for the Borj El Kebir fortress and the souk.
- Guellala, for pottery and the hilltop museum.
Ask the driver which stops include entry fees. Hours at Borj El Kebir and the Guellala museum change through the year.
Tour 2: Djerba Explore, museum and heritage village
A guided visit to Djerba Explore concentrates on the Lalla Hadria museum, with 15 galleries that span the 7th to early 20th century, and the neighbouring heritage village. Adults pay roughly 32 to 37 TND, children aged 4 to 12 pay 24 TND and under-4s go free. The park’s practical-information page lists museum hours of 09:00 to 17:00. Politely decline the crocodile area that the same ticket covers.
Tour 3: Erriadh with a local guide
A guide helps in Erriadh because the village packs two very different sites into a short distance. Djerbahood has around 250 murals, created in the 2014 and 2021 editions by more than 150 artists. The synagogue of El Ghriba is a living place of worship and a pilgrimage site, and it was the target of an armed attack on 9 May 2023. Expect a security check, bring passport or ID, and dress modestly with a head covering of your own. Entry is free with a customary donation. Ask locally about opening times. Keep the visit calm and short.
Tour 4: Ras Rmel boat trip
The Ras Rmel trip, nicknamed Flamingo Island, leaves from Houmt Souk’s fishing port, about 16 km from Midoun. Midoun itself has no port. Expect roughly an hour of sailing, with lunch on board. Flamingos favour the cooler months, about October to May, but no operator can promise a sighting.
How to choose
- Pick licensed operators, and read recent reviews.
- Ask for the stops and the time at each one.
- Check whether entry tickets are bundled.
- Avoid add-ons that involve camel, horse or carriage rides. This guide does not recommend them.
