Couples Escapes at Niagara Falls

Couples have honeymooned at Niagara Falls for generations. The mood is strongest in the evening, when floodlights tint the cataracts, and on the Canadian side, where hotel towers and restaurants line the Fallsview district. This sample weekend mixes both banks and the old town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, with prices in Canadian dollars unless marked USD.

A weekend plan for two

Friday evening. Check in on the Canadian side and book a window table for dinner. Afterwards, walk the lit-up Queen Victoria Park promenade, which is free and open late.

Saturday morning. Take the Rainbow Bridge on foot to the US side with passports in hand. Walk to Terrapin Point on Goat Island for a close look at Horseshoe Falls, or ride the Maid of the Mist ($30.25 USD adult, April 24 to November 8 in 2026).

Saturday afternoon and evening. Drive 20 km to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Taste icewine and chocolate at Inniskillin or Peller Estates, then take a carriage ride through town with Sentineal Carriages, which costs about $120 to $160 for a 30 minute ride.

Sunday. Book a spa session or a 12 minute helicopter flight for two from Niagara Helicopters at about $370 per couple.

Restaurants overlooking the falls

  • Prime Steakhouse has tall windows facing the lit falls, dry-aged beef, Ontario lamb and local wines. Mains cost about $50 to $90. Reserve three or four weeks in advance.
  • Watermark Fallsview Restaurant occupies the 33rd floor of the Hilton Fallsview at 6361 Fallsview Boulevard. For the summer fireworks at 10:00 pm, ask for a 20:00 to 21:30 booking.
  • Table Rock House Restaurant is the nearest restaurant to the Horseshoe Falls brink, with Ontario ingredients and mains of about $40 to $75.

Where to stay

Fallsview hotels give the biggest views of the lit falls. For a quieter, more traditional night, choose the Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, which serves English-style afternoon tea, or 124 on Queen Hotel and Spa.

Spas

Christienne Fallsview Spa at the Sheraton Fallsview, 5875 Falls Avenue, has treatment rooms and hydrotherapy tubs facing the falls. Couples packages with massage, aromatherapy and a private whirlpool cost about $350 to $650. The Spa at 124 on Queen offers a hydrotherapy circuit, a eucalyptus steam room and a snow room.

Seasonal notes

  • Summer evenings add free fireworks at 10:00 pm, from May 15 to October 12 in 2026.
  • From mid November the Winter Festival of Lights decorates the Canadian side.
  • Winter boats are closed, so plan dinners, spas and wine tastings instead.
