Family Friendly Activities in Cancún
Pick the right beach
Families should look to the north side of the Hotel Zone. Las Perlas, Langosta, Tortugas, Caracol and Playa del Niño sit on the sheltered Bahía de Mujeres, so they are usually the calmest beaches. Several of them were restricted on 13 May 2026, though, which shows why you check flags and sargassum each morning. Green means swim, yellow means be careful and red means stay out. The east-facing beaches (Gaviota Azul, Marlín, Chac Mool, Delfines) have open surf with rip currents, so keep children out of the water there.
Fun on a boat or indoors
- MUSA glass-bottom boat: US$58 from Cancún, according to the official site at musamexico.org . Passengers look down at the sculptures near Punta Nizuc from the boat, which suits children who do not swim.
- Interactive Aquarium Cancún: found at La Isla (Km 12.5), with fish and shark exhibits. Walk through to look, and pass on any dolphin, sea lion or ray encounter, because Mexico has banned marine-mammal shows and interactions.
- Captain Hook pirate dinner cruise: about 3.5 hours from around 19:00, with sword fights and a cannon show. Plan for a pier fee of roughly US$15.
Evening and daytime culture
Xoxi Cancún accepts guests from age 5 and gives ages 5 to 11 a 25 percent fare cut. The evening runs Tuesday to Saturday from 19:00 to 23:00, and as the bar is open, adults should arrange sober transport. It is on the Puerto Morelos highway at Km 307.
Museo Maya de Cancún and El Rey make easy short visits. The museum (Km 16.5) is 210 MXN for foreign adults and includes the San Miguelito ruins, and El Rey costs 75 MXN. Iguanas are commonly seen at El Rey. INAH lists the museum details .
A day on Isla Mujeres with children
The Ultramar ferry from Puerto Juárez crosses in 20 to 30 minutes. A foreign adult pays about 580 MXN round trip and a minor about 440 MXN, and tickets cannot be refunded, so be at the terminal 30 minutes early. Playa Norte is usually among the cleaner beaches in the area, though sargassum can reach it in any month. A daytime golf cart costs about 1,300 MXN, which saves small legs. Check Ultramar for current fares.
