Guided Experiences Around St Helier
Jersey packs a lot of guided history into a small island, and St Helier is the easiest place to start from. The tours here fall into four kinds: military heritage, vintage coach circuits, walks on the exposed seabed, and the Occupation exhibition at St Lawrence. All prices are in Jersey pounds, which match sterling.
Seabed walks with a guide
At spring low tides the sea retreats across a wide reef in the south-east, and Jersey Walk Adventures leads groups across it. Its “Walk to the Edge of the Moon” goes over Violet Bank to Seymour Tower or Icho Tower, with timings set by the tide. After dark there are bioluminescence walks on the beach. Listings show prices from about £13 up to £30.50 depending on the route, and the night walks sit around £22 to £25, so confirm the price when booking. Go only with an accredited guide. The sea comes back fast, and deep gullies fill behind walkers while the sand under them is still dry. The company’s page is jerseywalkadventures.co.uk .
Open-top buses from Liberation Station
Jersey Bus Tours uses classic buses from the 1950s and 1960s for narrated circuits between late March and October. West Coast Wonders passes Corbiere Lighthouse, St Brelade’s Bay and St Ouen’s Bay. East Coast Exploration visits Mont Orgueil, Gorey and St Catherine. Each is a scheduled excursion rather than a hop-on hop-off service. Expect about £18 to £22 for adults and £10 to £12 for children. The operator’s site is jerseybustours.com , and you can also search Viator for St Helier tours .
Atlantic Wall tours
Specialist guides, among them Marc Yates of Jersey Military Tours and volunteers from the Channel Islands Occupation Society, show visitors around fortifications built by German forces. These include the restored naval observation tower at Noirmont Point, known as Batterie Lothringen, and gun positions around St Ouen’s Bay. Read about them at jerseymilitarytours.je or ciosjersey.org.uk .
Heritage Pass
Jersey Heritage sells a 7-day pass at £52.00 for adults, £42.00 for seniors, £30.00 for children and students and £136.00 for a family. It covers Elizabeth Castle, Mont Orgueil, Jersey Museum, the Maritime Museum and Tapestry Gallery, La Hougue Bie and Hamptonne, and it halves the price of the castle ferry. Ticket details are at jerseyheritage.org .
Jersey War Tunnels
The tunnels at Les Charrieres Malorey in St Lawrence are about 6 km from town and are best approached as a memorial. Known as Ho8, the 1 km complex was cut into the hillside between 1941 and 1944 by slave labourers working for Organisation Todt, and it was meant as an underground hospital. It now holds an exhibition on the German Occupation. The tone throughout is serious, and children must be accompanied.
Opening dates for 2026 are 21 January to 21 December, daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Adults pay £21.00, seniors aged 65 and over £20.00, students aged 16 and over with ID £20.00 and children aged 7 to 15 £10.00. Those aged 6 and under are free. LibertyBus route 8 goes Monday to Saturday all year, and route 28 goes daily. The Heritage Pass is not valid here, and tickets are sold at jerseywartunnels.com .
