Easy and Moderate Walks Around Paphos
Walking in Paphos ranges from a flat harbour path to a steep hill loop. This page orders the options by effort and flags the routes that are not open. Summer afternoons can exceed 35 degrees, so start early.
Easy: the harbour and coastal path
Distance 4 to 5 km. Start by Poseidonos Avenue and follow the boardwalk at Kato Paphos harbour past Paphos Castle, then continue on the paved path around the lighthouse towards Faros Beach and the Elysium headland. The route is flat, free, lit in the evening and open to everyone, with fishing boats, restaurants and Roman remains beside the water. If you want to enter the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park (EUR 4.50) or the castle (EUR 2.50), the entrances are on the way.
Easy to moderate: Ktima on foot
Distance: short, with some slopes. Duration: 2 to 3 hours. The upper town stands on a ridge, and the walk links:
- the Municipal Market (the Agora);
- 28th October Square, with the Town Hall and the library;
- Ibrahim’s Khan, on Konstantinou Kanari Street;
- Kennedy Square;
- the Mouttalos quarter, with restored stone houses and coffee shops.
Wall murals from the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture year brighten the lanes, and viewpoints look over the lower town to the sea. The regional tourism board publishes events, and tourist information offices can say whether a guided walk is on.
Moderate to strenuous: the Aphrodite Trail
Start at the Baths of Aphrodite on the Akamas, near Polis. The loop is about 7.5 km and climbs 370 metres to the ruins at Pyrgos tis Rigainas and the summit of Moutti tis Sotiras. Expect views of Cape Arnaoutis and Chrysochou Bay. The walk takes 3 to 4 hours over loose gravel and steep slopes. Boots are essential, there is no water or facilities on the trail, and 2 litres per person is the minimum. Skip it at midday in summer.
Closed or unsuitable
- Avakas Gorge. A chain and signs block the entrance to the nature trail. The Forestry Department closed it in December 2025, and it was still shut at the last update in May 2026. The Department of Forests is the body to ask about current access.
- Lara beach after dark. Night presence is banned in the nesting season.
- Cliff paths near Peyia sea caves. Keep away from the edges, because jumping is dangerous.
Transport tips
Buses on route 615 go from Kato Paphos to Coral Bay, and route 612 serves the airport. The Akamas trailhead is easiest by car, but rental insurance excludes unpaved tracks. Stay on tarmac and read your contract.
