Paphos Day Trips by Direction and Distance
Paphos sits in the south-west of Cyprus, and the best outings fan out in four directions. Drive on the left and expect euro prices. The list below says which district each place belongs to, so you know what a “Paphos” trip really covers.
North-west: Peyia and Coral Bay
About 12 to 15 km out, around 20 minutes by car. Route 615 serves Coral Bay from Kato Paphos. Coral Bay has a sheltered beach, and Maa-Palaeokastro is on the headland. Peyia’s sea caves are a shore viewpoint for the Edro III wreck, which has sat aground since late 2011. Stay on land: the wreck is unsafe to board, and jumping off the cliffs is dangerous.
South-east: Kouklia and Petra tou Romiou
About 14 to 25 km from Paphos, a 20 to 25 minute drive. The Palaepaphos sanctuary and museum at Kouklia cost EUR 4.50. Petra tou Romiou follows on the coast, and it is a viewing stop only. It lies on the south-east coast, a long way from the Akamas, and no lifeguard service should be assumed, so do not swim.
North: Tala and Agios Neophytos
The rock-cut hermitage lies 10 km north, about 15 minutes by car. A EUR 2 ticket covers the Enkleistra and museum. It is open 09:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 in the April to October season, and 09:00 to 16:00 from November to March.
North and north-east: Latchi, the vineyards and the forest
- Latchi and Polis, 40 to 45 km north, around 45 minutes. Boat cruises to the Blue Lagoon last roughly 2.5 to 3 hours and start from about EUR 20.
- Vouni Panayia and the Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery, about 35 km north-east. The monastery has free entry.
- Paphos Forest, about 55 km north-east, 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30 on winding roads. Stavros tis Psokas keeps the mouflon enclosure, and Cedar Valley is close.
East: Limassol District
Several famous names sit outside Paphos District. They make strong full days, and you should label them as such.
| Place | District |
|---|---|
| Kourion | Limassol |
| Kolossi Castle | Limassol |
| Omodos | Limassol |
| Platres and the Millomeris falls | Limassol |
| Kykkos Monastery | Nicosia |
Kourion is about 55 km east of Paphos. Ayia Napa, Protaras and Nicosia are too far for a comfortable same-day return.
What about North Cyprus?
It is not an easy day out of Paphos. The district has no crossing point, and the common crossings in Nicosia are about 1 hour 45 minutes away. Most rental contracts exclude the north from insurance, and many forbid it. Read your contract and take your passport if you plan to cross.
Planning notes
Winter hours apply from 16 September to 15 April, when the main Antiquities sites close at 17:00. Details are on the Department of Antiquities site . The Paphos bus site lists routes, and the airport link is route 612.
