Pomoravlje District Activity Planner
Pomoravlje District, in central Serbia, is made up of six municipalities: Jagodina (the seat), Ćuprija, Paraćin, Despotovac, Svilajnac and Rekovac. The flat Velika Morava plain covers the west, and the limestone Kučaj and Beljanica hills rise around Despotovac in the east. This guide gives costs in Serbian dinars (RSD) and groups the sights by area.

The Resava valley
Most visitors spend a day around Despotovac. Resava Cave opens 08:00 to 16:00, with the first tour at 08:30, then every 45 minutes and a last tour at 15:30. Students and pupils pay 650 RSD and children under 7 pay 50 RSD. Only about 800 m of the roughly 4.5 km system is walkable, and the air is cold, so a jacket is a good idea. For winter hours, call 035/611-110, and check the operator’s notice for road closures on military exercise days.
From the cave, the road leads to Lisine. The Veliki Buk waterfall is fed by the Veliko Vrelo spring and the whole area is first-category protected, so stay on the paths. Manasija completes the circuit. Stefan Lazarević founded it in the early 15th century, and its walls and towers surround the church.
Culture in Jagodina and Svilajnac
The Museum of Naive and Marginal Art, at Boška Đuričića 10, keeps different hours on weekends: Saturday 10:00 to 16:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 15:00, against 10:00 to 18:00 Tuesday to Friday. It began in 1960 as the Gallery of Self-taught Artists. In Svilajnac, the Natural History Centre of Serbia charges 550 RSD for children aged 3 to 12 and 600 RSD for pensioners and students.
Other things to try
Jagodina also has a zoo in the Đurđevo Brdo park, a wax museum and Aqua Park Jagodina, which opens in summer only. The Senjski Rudnik mining museum in Senje has a steam engine from 1874. Vrelo Grze, near Paraćin, is a protected natural monument on the Grza river.
Practical notes
The E75/A1 motorway runs past Paraćin, Jagodina and Ćuprija. From Jagodina it is roughly 140 km to Belgrade and 100 km to Niš. Many rural signs are in Cyrillic only. Monasteries are active places of worship, so cover shoulders and knees and ask before taking photographs inside a church. Check current travel advice before your trip and avoid protest gatherings.
