Organised Attraction Tours Near Lake Sevan
Few Tours, Mostly Bundled
Lake Sevan has no dedicated sightseeing operators and no ticketed attraction circuit. Almost every organised visit is a day package sold in Yerevan, and the lake is one stop in it. That makes tours a convenience for transport and commentary, since the main sights charge nothing at the gate.
The Packages You Will Find
Tour listings give Sevan itineraries as 8 to 11 hours long. The usual ones are:
- Sevanavank, Hayravank and Noratus. The peninsula churches, a monastery above the shore and a cemetery of carved cross-stones.
- Sevan and Dilijan. The lake, then Dilijan’s forest and monasteries, often with Haghartsin, Goshavank and Parz Lake. One private Yerevan to Sevan and Dilijan tour is listed from about 44,512 AMD for 10 to 11 hours. Treat it as a guide to the price range.
- Sevan and Tsaghkadzor. Tsaghkadzor is about 22 to 25 km from Sevan by road and has its own monastery and chairlift. It lengthens the day.
Names that appear in listings include Hyur Service, Armenia Discovery and One Way Tour. Compare inclusions, because boats, lunches and tips are often extra.
Food Tours and Tonir Bread
Food-led days stop at Tsaghkunk Restaurant and Glkhatun, in a village about 7 km north-west of Sevan, to watch lavash baked in a tonir. These are operator add-ons rather than their own product, so the price is part of the package.
Walking With a Local at Noratus
Villagers sometimes guide visitors around the khachkar field at Noratus Cemetery . Settle the fee beforehand. Almost a thousand khachkars stand there, with the oldest from the late 10th century. Read more: Sightseeing around Sevan .
A Museum Stop in Yerevan
Finds from Lchashen, a Bronze Age burial ground south-west of Sevan town, are in the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan, including wooden wagons from the 15th and 14th centuries BC. The site at Lchashen itself is ruins with little signage.
Independent Alternatives
Without a package you can still see the same sights. Minibuses run from Yerevan to Sevan town in about 45 minutes to 1 hour 15, and a taxi or hired driver for the day links the shore sights. Timetables are on t-armenia.com . The cost is then your own transport plus any boat ride, and the churches and cemeteries are free.
Dress and Conduct
Sevanavank and the village church at Noratus are active places of worship, so cover shoulders and knees and speak quietly. Do not climb on the khachkars.
Choosing a Package
- Pick the shore loop for lake scenery and the Dilijan version for forest and more monasteries.
- Ask for the departure point, the return time and what the price covers.
- Bring a windproof layer and cash in dram.
- The lake’s park office posts general information at sevanpark.am .
