Krabi Events by Month: Markets and Festivals
Krabi’s entertainment calendar is short and mostly free: one weekly street party, one nightly market scene and two big festivals a year. Time your stay to catch at least one of them, and budget for food rather than tickets.
Every weekend: Krabi Town walking street
From Friday to Sunday, 17:00 to 22:00, Maharaj Soi 8 in Krabi Town becomes a car-free food street. Entry is free, and what you spend goes on dinner: dishes run about ฿50 to ฿100, a banana and Nutella roti about ฿40 to ฿70, and a fresh coconut ฿40 to ฿60. A stage in the middle hosts live acoustic music, folk performances and school dance troupes through the evening.
Verdict: if your trip includes a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, spend that evening in Krabi Town. It is the best-value night out in the province and the most local. A songthaew from Ao Nang costs about ฿60 per person, 17 km each way, or you can find a Krabi Town hotel on Booking.com and stay the night.
Most evenings: Ao Nang’s markets
The night markets along Nopparat Thara beach, including the Landmark Night Market, serve street food and souvenirs to a soundtrack of live reggae, with cocktail bars close by. Fire-spinning performers work the sand after dark. It costs nothing to watch. A tuk-tuk along the Ao Nang strip costs a flat ฿80 to ฿100. To eat your way round with a guide, browse Krabi evening food tours on Viator .
Recreational cannabis use has been illegal since 25 June 2025, and it is now medical-only with a Thai prescription. The UK government safety advice for Thailand explains the law.
April: Songkran, 13 to 15 April
Thai New Year arrives with three days of water fights in Ao Nang and Krabi Town. Nothing stays dry, so pack a waterproof phone pouch and leave valuables at the hotel. Temples hold merit-making ceremonies, and people pour scented water over Buddha statues, quietly and respectfully. Join the street side of the festival and simply watch the temple side.
November: Loy Krathong
At the November full moon, people gather on Ao Nang Beach and along the Krabi River to float krathongs, flower baskets decorated with candles and incense, onto the water as an offering to the water goddess. It is free to watch or join. The date follows the lunar calendar and changes every year, so confirm it before booking flights.
The rest of the year
Outside these dates, the walking street and the Ao Nang markets are your entertainment. From May to October the monsoon brings heavy rain, so carry a light rain jacket to the markets and check the sky before taking a songthaew into town.
Before you travel
Book festival dates early. The visa-exempt stay is 30 days for many passports, as listed in the UK government entry requirements , and the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card must be filed on the official TDAC portal within the 3 days before you land.

Tip: bring small notes of ฿20 to ฿100 to the walking street, so you can graze from stall to stall without waiting for change.
