The guided tours worth booking out of Las Vegas each come in tiers, and picking the right tier matters more than picking the destination.
Hoover Dam, three tour tiers
About 30 miles southeast, a 45-minute drive. The Visitor Center runs $15 adult, the Powerplant Guided Tour descends into the 650-foot turbine room for $30, and the Full Guided Dam Tour is $40 with a minimum age of 8, sold on-site only. A free pedestrian sidewalk on the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge gives a 900-foot-high view of the dam without a ticket at all. Grand Canyon West, the tier that includes the Skywalk
Grand Canyon West sits on Hualapai tribal land, about 125 miles out, 2 to 2.5 hours one-way, a workable single-day tour. General admission starts at $68; adding the glass-bottomed Skywalk, 4,000 feet above the canyon floor, pushes that to $93-plus, and personal cameras aren’t allowed on the Skywalk itself. Red Rock Canyon, self-drive or guided
Red Rock Canyon’s 13-mile Scenic Drive, 17 miles west of the Strip, needs a timed-entry reservation at recreation.gov ($2 fee plus $15 vehicle entrance) between October 1 and May 31, 8am to 5pm; no reservation applies outside that window. A guided tour handles the reservation logistics for you, which is worth it during the busier winter and spring months.
Valley of Fire, an hour’s drive
Roughly 55 miles northeast via I-15, about an hour out. Entry is $15 per vehicle for non-residents, $10 for Nevada residents. Fire Wave and Pastel Canyon trails close May through September once temperatures top 105°F, per Nevada State Parks .
Neon Museum, day or night
The outdoor Boneyard at 770 N Las Vegas Blvd holds 250-plus historic neon signs. Daytime general admission runs $25, a guided night tour $35, and the “Brilliant!” 360-degree projection show $28. Details and tickets at neonmuseum.org .
