Nessebar Activities by Season and Budget
Plan a Nessebar visit by season first. The peninsula and its museums work all year, but the water park, dive centres and most boat trips belong to summer. Everything is priced in euros, and the figures below are guides to confirm before you pay.
Free or cheap
- Walk the western walls and gate, the St Sophia ruins and the Eleusa basilica ruins, all free.
- See the exterior of St John Aliturgetos on the southern cliff, also free.
- Ride public bus line 1 from Sunny Beach for about 1 euro in cash.
- Step into the Church of the Mother of God, a working church that is free to enter (dress modestly).
Paid sights in the Old Town
The Archaeological Museum, at 2A Mesembria Street just past the gate, sells tickets for every paid site. The museum and St Stephen each cost around 4.60 euros for adults. The smaller churches cost around 2.56 euros. The pass covering all seven paid sites runs about 17.90 euros. Read more: Sightseeing in Nessebar .
Summer water fun
Aquapark Nessebar (formerly Aqua Paradise) is at Ravda, KV Aurelia 9. It runs from late May to September and prices tickets by height. Children under 90 cm are free, and online tickets start from roughly 26 to 35 euros. Free shuttles collect guests at signed stops in Nessebar, Ravda, Sveti Vlas and Sunny Beach. For a different park, Action Aquapark stands in Sunny Beach.
Diving
Dive centres at Nessebar Yacht Port include Angel Divers and Nemo Diving Center. Anoxic Divers also works from Pomorie, Ravda, Sveti Vlas and Sunny Beach. The seabed here is rock and ancient harbour stonework, not coral. Mornings give calmer water, because conditions often worsen later in the day. The season runs about June to September, and an introductory dive costs about 50 euros.
Food and drink
A one-hour tasting of six local wines with cheese and focaccia at Messembria winery in the Old Town costs about 25 euros. The fig wine draws praise.
On the water
Half-day boat tours from Nessebar South Port cost about 44 euros for adults, and catamaran cruises with lunch from Sunny Beach cost about 54 euros. A short sunset cruise is listed at about 59 euros. Sellers set the final price.
Seasonal planning
| Season | What to expect |
|---|---|
| 2 June to 14 September | Museum and St Stephen open 9:00 to 19:00, bus line 1 runs from Sunny Beach, boat trips and dives operate |
| Late May to September | Aquapark Nessebar is open |
| Mid October to March | Earlier closing, small churches by arrangement, most restaurants shut |
Sea safety
Black Sea beaches carry rip currents, and a red flag means stay out of the water. Lifeguards stay on duty until about 18:00, and not every beach flies the right flag. If a current catches you, swim parallel to the shore and stay calm.
