Hong by Starlight
John Gray’s SeaCanoe sells this paddle in Phang Nga Bay from 3,950 THB, and the figure is a starting price. It includes the hotel transfer, national park fee, a light lunch and dinner, guides and a stop at James Bond Island. Glowing plankton is an operator claim, so treat it as a possible bonus. The operator does not publish a child price, a departure time or a pier. Its office is at Ao Por in Thalang. Ask when you enquire at johngray-seacanoe.com .
If you land at James Bond Island, you will step onto Khao Phing Kan. Boats have been kept away from the needle rock, Ko Tapu, since 1998. Between about 10:00 and 14:00 the island is crowded. Boats in the bay keep running in the monsoon but may cancel in rough weather, so check with the operator from May to October.
Chalong Bay Rum
The distillery sits at 14/2 Moo 2, Soi Palai 2, Chalong. The tour shows how the rum is made and ends with a mojito. The bar and restaurant stay open into the evening. Prices are not published online, so ask when you book. See thedistilleryphuket.com .
Simon Cabaret
The theatre is on Sirirat Road in Patong. Seats listed by resellers run about US$25 for standard and US$32 for VIP, so confirm on the theatre’s own site, simoncabaretphuket.com . Type that address yourself, because look-alike domains exist and one of them leads to a gambling site. Resellers say cameras are not allowed inside.
Blue Elephant
The cooking school works from the Governor’s Mansion on Krabi Road in the Old Town. Classes are half days that begin with a market visit, and the restaurant in the mansion was listed by Michelin in 2024. Class hours are not fixed, so message the school first.
What not to book
Phuket FantaSea in Kamala stages a show with live elephants and other animals, and it runs only a few nights a week. Animal welfare is a good reason to pick a different evening. Coach tours that stop at gem or cashew shops spend a large part of the day in sales rooms, so ask for the stop list before paying. Anything that offers elephant rides, tiger photos or bathing shows is worth declining.
For a free alternative, Thalang Road in the Old Town turns into a walking street on Sundays from about 16:00 to 22:00.
