Krabi Solo Travel on a Budget: Costs and Tips
Solo travellers in Krabi pay the same per seat as everyone else, which is good news, but anything priced per boat or per car hits them hardest. Build your trip around shared transport and shared tours and a single traveller can see most of the province on a modest daily budget.
What a solo day costs
- Songthaew between Krabi Town and Ao Nang: about ฿60 per person, every 15 to 20 minutes.
- Airport shuttle bus from Krabi airport to Ao Nang: about ฿150, roughly an hour.
- Shared longtail to Railay from Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao: ฿100 one way in daylight, up to ฿150 after dark.
- Tuk-tuk hops along the Ao Nang strip: a flat ฿80 to ฿100, so the songthaew is the better deal when it is going your way.
- Street dinner at a night market: ฿50 to ฿100 a dish, with a roti for ฿40 to ฿70.
- Scooter: ฿150 to ฿250 a day plus fuel, but read the safety notes below first.
The shared longtail leaves once eight passengers are aboard, so a solo traveller never pays more than one fare. Waiting a little for the boat to fill is the price. Ao Nang is the pickup point for most tours, which makes it the easiest solo base, and you can search Ao Nang hostels on Booking.com .
Free and nearly free
Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), about 9 km northeast of Krabi Town, costs nothing to enter, with donations welcome. Its summit stairway of about 1,260 steep steps is best started at first light, before the heat. Cover shoulders and knees, keep food out of sight of the macaques and stay silent near the monks’ caves in the lower valley. Afterwards, walk the riverfront at Chao Fah Park in Krabi Town, or end the day on the quiet sand at Tubkaek with a book and a ฿40 to ฿60 coconut.
Where solo budgets break
A private longtail charter costs ฿2,500 to ฿4,500 a day whether one person or six are aboard. Verdict: never charter alone. Join a shared Four Islands trip at about ฿800 to ฿1,200 per person instead, with lunch and snorkel gear usually included, and you also get company for the day. Compare shared Four Islands trips on GetYourGuide for current departure times. Park fees are paid per person on top.
The same logic applies inland. A driver to the Emerald Pool and hot springs is cheap for four and expensive for one, so a shared tour is usually the better buy for solo travellers.
Meeting people
A half-day beginner climbing course on Railay, about ฿1,000 to ฿1,500, groups you with other learners on the rock. Ton Sai, the climbers’ cove, is reached on foot from Railay at low tide, and its bamboo cafés are easy places to fall into conversation.
Solo safety
Thailand’s roads are among the deadliest in the world. If you rent a scooter, wear a helmet, check that your licence and insurance cover it, and never hand over your passport as a deposit, which the UK government safety advice for Thailand warns against. Recreational cannabis is illegal. Before you fly, the visa-exempt stay is 30 days for many nationalities, per the UK government entry requirements , and the free arrival card is filed at the official TDAC portal within the 3 days before arrival.

Tip: cross back from Railay before sunset, because evening longtails can cost half as much again as the ฿100 daytime fare.
