A ceasefire began on 8 April 2026 and has mostly held, though violations have been reported and there have been later drone and cyber incidents. A couples’ stay in Manama

Bahrain is more relaxed than many of its Gulf neighbours, and its romantic appeal lies in seafront dining, spa time and evenings in the arts district rather than in public sightseeing. Plan most of your romantic moments inside hotels and resorts, because kissing and long embraces in public streets and near religious sites are unacceptable. Outside private resort grounds, keep your behaviour low-key and your clothes modest.

Skyline dining at Bahrain Bay

Two restaurants at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay stand out for special evenings. CUT by Wolfgang Puck is one, and re/Asian Cuisine is on the 50th floor. Both have large windows facing the lit Manama skyline. Book well ahead, mention the occasion, and keep in mind that licensed hotel restaurants are the main places to find alcohol, with a zero drink-driving limit on the roads.

A sunset on the water

Private wooden dhow charters out of Bahrain Bay run for about two hours around sunset, past the Financial Harbour and the Bahrain World Trade Center, whose turbines are lit at night. No price is listed here because rates differ by boat and season, so request a written quote and ask about cancellation if the weather or security situation changes.

Spa retreats

Sofitel Zallaq Thalassa Sea and Spa, on the west coast near Zallaq, has a dedicated seawater thalassotherapy complex that is reported to be the only one of its kind in the Gulf. It also has a private beach and balconies facing the sea.
The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain, in Seef, is a lagoon resort with seaside villas with plunge pools, gardens and La Plage for quiet dining.

Rooms at five-star hotels start around BD 80 and can pass BD 220 a night.

Dinner in Adliya

Block 338 has leafy courtyards and quiet corners for a candlelit dinner. Cafe Lilou is known for its Parisian decor and pastries. Masso serves farm-to-table Southern European cooking, but its address is uncertain, so check it before you leave. A main course and drink at Adliya restaurants typically cost BD 8 to 18 a person.

Timing and logistics

Autumn to spring (November to March) is the comfortable window. In summer, outdoor evenings stay hot and humid until late.
Taxis, Uber and Careem make dinner transfers simple.
Check evisa.gov.bh for entry rules and fees before booking flights.
