St Helier Dining, Spa and Seafront for Couples
Couples planning a break in St Helier can build it around three things: a special dinner, a seafront hotel and an evening somewhere with a view of the sea. Prices are in Jersey pounds, which equal sterling. Plan ahead for weekend restaurant tables, and treat the tide as part of any plan that takes you onto the shore or out to a tower.
A day for two
Morning. Walk the Central Market, open Monday to Saturday from 07:30, for local produce, black butter and flowers. It closes at 14:00 on Thursdays.
Afternoon. Book afternoon tea on the Terrace of the Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa on the Esplanade. The five-star Victorian hotel looks across St Aubin’s Bay to Elizabeth Castle, and it also has a Champagne bar and an Elemis Spa with treatments for two.
Evening. Choose between dinner in town and a trip out to the coast, described below.
Dinner in St Helier
Bohemia, inside The Club Hotel and Spa on Green Street, held a Michelin star for 21 consecutive years up to the 2025 guide. The cooking is modern British and features Jersey scallops and crab. A tasting menu, a pescatarian option and a bar lounge are available, and tables go weeks ahead at weekends. Tom Earnshaw is head chef now. For menus, go to bohemiajersey.com .
Dinner by the water
St Aubin’s Harbour has 17th-century merchants’ houses around the water, about 10 minutes from town by taxi or 35 minutes by bicycle along the promenade. LibertyBus routes 12, 12A, 14 and 15 stop there. St Brelade’s Bay has waterfront restaurants where the sun sets over the sand. Bus times are listed at libertybus.je .
Sleep in a tower or fort
Jersey Heritage rents out coastal properties that can be booked through its holiday-let pages at jerseyheritage.org/holiday-lets .
- Seymour Tower is a granite tower of the 18th century, about 2 miles from shore on the Violet Bank reef, with the sea all around at high tide. Up to 7 people can stay, and bookings go ahead only when tide and weather make the guided crossing safe.
- La Crete Fort is on the north coast and takes up to 5 guests. Access to it is not tidal.
Sunset at La Corbiere
The south-western tip is the classic place for an evening view. La Corbiere Lighthouse stands on a tidal rock reached by a causeway about 300 m long, a walk of roughly 10 minutes at low water. A siren sounds ahead of the sea covering it. Turn back straight away if it goes off. Routes 12A and 22 serve the headland. Ask Ports of Jersey about tide times.
