Sunset Clubs and Quiet Stays on Lembongan

What a Couple Finds Here

Nusa Lembongan offers couples a short list of good things: a beach club with a pool, a floating platform, relaxed meals on the sand and a few small resorts. There is no nightlife strip, which is much of the appeal. Plan around sunset, a late lunch and an early boat.

Beach Clubs at Sunset

  • Sandy Bay Beach Club: a beachfront pool, open daily from about 07:00 to 23:00, with the sun setting over open ocean. The club also has accommodation, and there is no minimum spend.
  • The Pontoon by Lago: a platform floating off Coconut Beach. The minimum spend is about IDR 200,000, a free boat takes you out, and it runs until around 19:00.
  • Ohana’s Beach Club: daybeds at Jungutbatu with a small minimum spend.

Drinks With a View

The Deck Cafe and Bar has a boardwalk above Jungut Batu beach, open 07:30 to 22:00. Happy hour runs from 17:00 to 18:30 and payment is by card. It looks north toward Mount Agung, about 3,000 metres high, so it is a place for evening drinks with a view of the volcano, while the sunset itself falls to the west over the ocean.

Meals

Ginger and Jamu on the Jungutbatu beachfront is mostly vegan and vegetarian and opens from about 07:30 until 22:00. For international dishes, Muntigs serves a mixed menu at a resort restaurant.

Rooms

The Tamarind Resort is a small property with 12 rooms and three villas of three bedrooms each, from around AU$440 a night. Sandy Bay Beach Club rents rooms as well. Compare rates for your dates before booking.

Boat for Two

Charter a private boat for snorkelling or a sunset cruise, which costs about IDR 1,200,000 to 3,000,000 for the boat. Check that lifejackets are provided, and remember that wet-season swell from December to March can cancel trips.

Scenery and Safety

Dream Beach is a 115 m crescent of white sand under the cliffs. Enjoy it from the sand and the nearby viewpoint, and stay out of the surf, as rips are strong. Devil’s Tear sits a few minutes’ walk to the north, where waves force spray up through a rock channel. Keep behind the rope barriers there and off wet rock, since several visitors have died there.

The Blue Lagoon on Ceningan looks inviting, but its cliff edge has no barriers. Go for the view from the path, and skip the jumping.

Arriving

Fast boats from Sanur take about 30 minutes, and most land on the beach so you wade in. The last boat back is around 17:00, so a night on the island is more relaxed than a rushed day trip. Many shops and hotels add a 3 to 5 percent card surcharge.
