Crossing to Ceningan and Penida for the Day
Three Ways to Spend a Day
From Nusa Lembongan you can walk to Nusa Ceningan, take a public boat to Nusa Penida, or work the other way and visit Lembongan from Bali. Each has its own timing, costs and risks.
1. Nusa Ceningan by Foot, Bicycle or Scooter
Ceningan sits across the 140 m Yellow Bridge, which carries only pedestrians, bicycles and motorbikes and is free to use. Bicycles rent for about IDR 20,000 to 40,000 and scooters for about IDR 75,000 to 150,000 a day. Scooter riders need a home licence and an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle endorsement, and the roads near Ceningan are narrow, hilly and gravelly in places.
What to see:
- Sea Breeze: a pool with swings and hammocks over the water
- Suku Beach Club: a minimum spend of about IDR 150,000 to 300,000 per person
- Mahana Point: a cliff bar with jump platforms of roughly 5 and 10 metres, usable at high tide, with fees of about IDR 25,000 and 50,000 a jump paid at the bar
- Blue Lagoon: a free cove at the cliff edge with no barriers, drones banned, and an informal jump point. Swell decides whether it is workable, and the climb out is a small cliff face. Families and first-timers should leave it alone.
2. Nusa Penida by Public Boat
The boat leaves from the Yellow Bridge for Toyapakeh roughly hourly between 06:30 and 16:00 and takes 10 to 15 minutes. A one-way ticket is about IDR 50,000 to 60,000. On arrival, arrange a car and driver for the west coast: Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong and Crystal Bay all lie on Penida.
Costs and cautions:
- Since 1 September 2026 each major attraction sells a QR ticket, about IDR 25,000 a site, in addition to the island entry fee.
- The cliff path at Kelingking is hazardous, with a fatal fall reported in September 2026, and swimming at its beach is banned.
- Angel’s Billabong has killed visitors at mid to high tide.
- Penida’s roads are rough, so a driver is a better bet than a scooter.
- Plan the return so you catch the last boat.
3. Lembongan as a Day From Bali
A fast boat from Sanur lands you at Jungut Batu or Mushroom Bay after about 30 minutes. Boats begin around 07:00 and stop around 17:00. Most arrive on the beach, leaving a short wade through water between ankle and knee deep, while Rocky Fast Cruise docks at its own jetty near the Yellow Bridge. If the tide is low, a transfer boat takes you in.
Fares are tiered, with standard one-way tickets commonly between IDR 150,000 and 275,000. A string of 2025 and 2026 accidents is the reason to wear your lifejacket, travel in the morning and check the weather and the operator. The wet season from December to March brings swell and cancelled boats, and nothing sails on Nyepi, 9 March 2027.
A Mainland Extra
After the crossing back, Sanur offers a beachfront promenade, and a hired driver can reach Ubud.
