Taking Children to Quebec City and Nearby
Children can enjoy Quebec City in any season if you match the day to the weather. Fees below are in Canadian dollars (CAD) and mostly come from 2026 rate pages. The hills and stairs of Old Quebec are tiring for small legs and hard for strollers, so plan breaks, and use the funicular, which charges 7 CAD for adults one way while children under 117 cm travel free.
Wet or cold days indoors
The Aquarium du Québec is in Sainte-Foy at 1675 avenue des Hôtels. It shows polar bears, walruses, harbour seals, leopard sharks, a giant Pacific octopus, jellyfish and touch tanks. The opening hours of 9:00 to 18:00 apply daily from 1 June to 7 September 2026 and are shorter afterwards, and it is shut on 25 December. Prices depend on where you live, with adults roughly 25 to 34 CAD and children about half that, and the official page is Sépaq’s rate grid . Parking works and road widening nearby run into 2027.
Méga Parc at the Galeries de la Capitale, 5401 boulevard des Galeries, is an indoor amusement park open all year. Entry was listed at 7.99 CAD plus per-ride prices, and its Patinarium is a 750-foot skating trail. The latest hours are on the Méga Parc page . At the Musée de la civilisation a family ticket was about 58 CAD.
Fine days outdoors
At the Citadelle, children 10 and under are free and a family of up to two adults and three under-18s paid 50 CAD in 2026. The guard changes at 10:00 from Wednesday to Sunday, from late June to the end of August. The Plains of Abraham Museum is free for ages 5 to 12 from 19 June to 7 September 2026, then 4.75 CAD, with a 32.50 family ticket.
Montmorency Falls has a cable car, a suspension bridge and a 487-step staircase. Hold small hands on the bridge. An adult daily access fee was about 13.90 CAD in high season, with lower prices for children. Bus 800 from the RTC network reaches the park.
Snowy days
From 3 January to 21 March 2027 the Village Vacances Valcartier winter play centre is open. A day package with the Hôtel de Glace was listed at 69.99 CAD, and ice hotel tickets follow height, with children under 1 m free. Bora Parc, an indoor waterpark, runs all year. Rinks at the Plains of Abraham and Place D’Youville are free. Wrap children in layers because the wind off the river is strong.
Spring treats and a long train ride
Sugar shacks run from mid-March to April. Cabane à sucre Familiale in Sainte-Famille, on Île d’Orléans, is listed. The Train de Charlevoix leaves Montmorency Falls with seasonal runs to about 1 November, departing at 8:00 and returning at 15:00, from about 169 CAD round trip. That is a long day for very small children. More on the train’s website .
